I have to say that I find the image misleading. Really, a few cars show up and they park all that spaced out? The lighting says it's early morning, so of course traffic will be light. The cars further out in the lot are probably early shift employees who are usually told to not park up close. There are a few cars near the entrance, but go to any mall at 10 a.m. and it's usually very uncrowded. So is Wal-Mart.
Not to say that the overall prognosis isn't valid. I think we are seeing a glimpse into that reality by the number of retailers that extended black Friday all weekend, and all the Cyber Monday sales that have turned into Cyber Week sales. They are desperate!

Every report I have heard said it was bad with only a few exceptions. One report said that the shoppers were saying that they were buying Xmas presents that they may not be able to afford later, so lets see how the Xmas season goes.
