It sure is.  I wrote years ago about how if there was ever civil unrest, most of the kids were going to come unglued without their devices (which is rewiring their brains per a UCLA study).  You should see a bf/gf breakup on Facebook.  It's horrible.  And, you can have six people in your living room, no one talking, all staring at their phones and typing like mad.  If you try to get someone's attention and ask them a question, they get annoyed, you have interrupted their illusion.

  • And Yahoo has a messenger....

  • I do like skype as it is a way of seeing friends and family who are far away.  My brother did a job interview using skype because the job was 8 hours away.  He got the job!  It is a temporary thing for him to get more experience so he can get what he wants in my area.

  • Addiction!!  I put my smart phone away out of respect....

It's more than a challenge.  It's impossible.  They can't put the devices down.  They can't focus on anything but what's going in cyberspace.  They might as well not be there, as they contribute nothing to the family or friends who are in the same room.  You have to get on Facebook to communicate with them, living in the same house!

On one hand its a blessing for those who have loved ones hundreds or thousands of miles apart.  On the other hand, like anything it is an addiction for some.  Getting people to lay off their devices for a little while when families are together for example thats a challenge lol

  • I think yahoogroups can be set up for family communications.
