Tonight's Sunset

First off, winter solstice is Tuesday December 22nd at 08:04 GMT.    Second, it used to be pitch dark before 5 p.m. this time of year.

Now, tonight, it was still light enough at 5:35 p.m. to clearly see the yellow slide in my neighbor's yard and there was a glow on the western horizon, where the cloud cover had broken.  At 5:50 p.m., I could barely see the slide and the western horizon still had a slight glow.  Above the horizon, the cloud cover was still lit by the setting sun.  At 6:00 p.m., the glow was gone but the cloud cover still had a bare amount of light.

I noticed it somewhat last year, but it is definitely more pronounced more.  So, I think this means the tilt of the Earth is off more.  I'm going to check off and on over the next hour to see if there is any sign of a second sun in this part of the world (Appalachian mountains of southwest Virginia).

  • Whole Earth, and all of the Solar System is being showered on buy Great Power of Mother & Father! No one is being left out!

  • There was no later light, like what we've seen in some of the second sun videos.  Could be this part of the world is still out of range.

  • Pinks and violets are pretty.  Unfortunately, there were no spectacular colors last night.
