Having just commented on the Taliban's destruction of priceless Buddha statues, it happened in Durham, NC, my hometown.  This time, it was the statue of a Confederate soldier holding a rifle.  The crime was committed by those protesting the violence in Charlottesville, VA over the weekend.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

Trying to rewrite history does not change what that history was.

Conquerors rewrite history.  Being from the south and knowing Southrons, they will never be conquered.  As they are fond of saying, all the South has to do is remain standing while the rest of the country collapses.  Committing criminal damage on public property just hardens the resolve.

It should be interesting to see if Soros' hand is behind either or both of these incidents.

  • Agree.

No, no justification at all.  Further, erasing history removes the opportunity to learn from history.  How smart is that?  It's not.  But the purpose is to remove the concepts of fighting for what you feel is right and defending oneself/one's society from the aggression of a hostile force.  We could one day see such a war in this country over the Muslim invasion (which the leftist criminals in D.C. support).  But, taking away that concept -- of defending your history, your heritage -- and making it all wrong, makes it much easier for the aggressors.  Along with burying the South for good, Judea-Christian morals will also be buried with it, another "thorn" in Soros' evil agenda removed.

Amen on every point. We're holding people from two centuries ago to the standards of today - not fair, not reasonable. I don't support violence from any group. There's nothing that justifies what went on this past weekend.

  • Yes, we do.

Yup! And the Bible does predict such an invasion and the loss of our rights. I know this, but still feel compelled to believe we can make a change for peace....without violence. Ultimately you and I know who wins.

  • Welcome, Becky.  No, rewriting history doesn't change it.  Those that rewrite history have an agenda.  If you step back a bit, the statue represents all the souls who put their lives on the line to defend what they believed in.  They had great courage and that should be respected, if their cause no longer can be by some.

To topple that statue is not an attack on slavery, but an attack on the memory of that time.  It is also a statement that believing in a cause is wrong.  It suggests if you try to defend what you believe you will be overthrown.  It gives some very subtle messages.  And, of course, it is a divisive action intended to incite civil war all over again.

I don't support racism or any kind of intolerance, and view the statue topplers as just more of the same.  One cannot fight intolerance with the same weapons of intolerance.  Murder, Mayhem and Madness cannot solve the problem of murder, mayhem and madness.  It's just tit for tat and serves to do nothing but escalate tensions.

That's my two cents, adjusted for inflation.

I think Soros is definitely behind this. Richard Spencer and one of the other organizers were both UVA students with Soros connections. So sad. But you're right. Rewriting history doesn't change it.
