We need more veterans in Congress

I've said it before. A person who is going to be the Commander in Chief needs to have had at least *some* mil leadership experience. I've got a Navy SEAL  backing me up. :D

Defend Our Nation
Cheryl,

During my career as a Navy SEAL and after traveling around the world to defend this great nation — I know firsthand that America is a country above the rest. We are an exceptional people with an ability to be a force for good in the world. But with that great honor comes responsibility and consequence. ALTERNATIVE ID

Now serving my country as a Congressman, I can firmly say one of the greatest threats to our national security is a lack of veteran leaders in Washington who are truly invested in the future of this great nation. You see, forty years ago, more than 7 in 10 elected officials in Washington, D.C. were veterans.

Now, it's less than 14% — and here's the bigger problem: every year that number gets smaller and smaller.

This is a major problem — and frankly, a major national security risk.

The people making decisions about funding our military, supporting our troops and veterans, and where we fight need to understand the consequences of their choices. No one better understands how policies affect our men and women in uniform than a veteran.

That's why we need more veterans in Congress who share our military values of leadership. Right now, it's more important than ever that we have leaders in Washington who can cut through the partisan infighting and deliver the kind of real reform that our country so desperately needs.

  • Being a veteran I know how hard it would be to send others into harms way if you really understood what it was like to be there yourself. Now we have a traitor as the ranking member of the armed services committee, John McCain.
