Second Oil Rig Goes Boom

News Alert

from The Wall Street Journal

An offshore oil rig has exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, west of the site of the April blast that caused the massive oil spill.

Seven helicopters, two airplanes and four boats are en route to the site, about 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay along the central Louisiana coast.

A Coast Guard officer says it hasn't been determined whether the structure is a production platform or a drilling rig or whether workers were aboard.

  • Humor is what being human is all about :) we all should enjoy life and relish the little moments that make up the painting. Yes I foresee hardships and tribulations but its much easier to face it with a smile than with a frown :)
  • Then it is agreed, among survivors, and the living, gallows humor is allowed!! Humor helps us process the insanity of it all....

John, thanks, I'll be watching for it, and Cheryl, thanks for the article link, too.
  • In the early days of April 20 event. I read articles that stated, west of deep-water horizon platforms that were producing 16,000 barrels a day, started to produce over 50,000 barrels a day. Ambient oil is what they called it,( new or young oil) Old wells filling up with NEW/ FRESH OIL an GAS. Renewing reserves to levels, when they first drilled the wells an begun collecting. There will be MORE of this.
  • Laugh whenever possible its the only way we will all be able to keep our sanity when the time comes.
  • Alex, as inappropriate as it may seem, I am LMAO right now, your way with words just seems to make me laugh,
We'll keep an eye on this...
  • HUMAN STUPIDITY IS THE FIRST THING THAT COMES TO MIND EDINA
  • So, I wonder what caused the explosion?
  • UPDATE: This is an offshore natural gas platform and is not a drilling rig. Mariner Energy has confirmed that this is not a drilling rig like the Deepwater Horizon but rather a platofrm that produced natural gas. This platform was not producing at the time of the explosion as per a company representative has told CMR.
  • Thanks for the head's up on this Alex,

PS, I tried the above link and it took me to the home page, I'm linking directly to the article here, for later when this story leaves the home page.
