  • True, Jacks.

  • My we have all that is needed with out all this stuff holding us down!

  • I hear you, Keith.  We have got us a major electronic noose around our necks.  Like Raina, I yearn for simpler times.

  • Okay, more words I could understand.  But it means what?  Go back to basics?

  • People that actually could work on these 1ess or 1ass phone switches were left alone! The ones that actually designed these were like "Sheldon on the big bang theory", the first computers that was on the Apollo/Skylab missions had no IC's chips!

  • LOL's

  • Jacks, that sounds great.  What did you say?

  • I worked on Phone Switches that has no chips so a 20ft 8-bay rack is full of flipflops, and/or gates to mimic two 8088chips,add four to eight ales of latching relays and a Cable Frame and you have a Phone Company Office, there are still 8 being used in St.Louis. Most Techs will refuse to work on them.

One Fiber Mux can run 32 light Frequencies in both directions 16/16 on the same Fiber and can handle 2-Fiber cables 144Fibers by itself. Built by Fujitsu!

  • I found this to be fascinating and sad.  I long for a simpler time.  I always felt out of sync as a child.  Felt I should have been born in the 1900s. However, as I got older I realized I was too free spirited, honest, and spoke my mind. Not good characteristics to possess for a female in the 1900s.  I fell in love with the ability to "google" anything and get answers.  But this shift ... it shows my country, people, and humanity being left behind.  I do not want this to happen.  Humanity has always progressed and evolved. Maybe the Pole shift is the silver lining in the cloud. The proverbial Tower of Babel.

  • You and me, both Keith.  I was trained in COBOL, FORTRAN, and RPG.  I've seen the computer industry since the early days and remember keypunch cards.  How antiquated.  ;-)
