I picked the 50 year+ cooker up for nothing. and it is in perfect working condition. All I need to do is put a stack on it (For the flu) and then let her rip. Maybe the first thing I will do is heat up some water and take a long foot bath :-)

Is everyone getting ready?

I would like to do more but the weather has not been too kind to us, Last week the chickens had been

moved into the garden to help with unwanted slug eggs and other critters, and they like the dirt and fresh

greens on the side, then it snowed again. Can't waite till spring. Who is planting what? Any projects? I am making a solar dehydrator for fruits , vegies etc. and hope it works. Also going to try Potato's covered with straw instead of dirt. Allways have to try something new. Still have to crop the old grape vines as long as it is cold but the ugly cold, wet weather has not given break. I only need a day or two to get that done. And getting on a ladder to trimm the apple trees on a half frozen ground in the snow is not what I want to do.

I guess the spring fever is comming upon me :-)

Apple Winehttps://earthchanges.ning.com/forum/topics/apple-wine2012-10-16T13:46:46.000Z2012-10-16T13:46:46.000ZJAKhttps://earthchanges.ning.com/members/JAK

Just to close up our gardening season I thought I would share a few pictures of our Apple Wine and Apple Juice preserves. To start it off; It took 5 hours with 6 people over a two day period (two locations)

to gather the Apples. Two hours at the local press. (right down the road, thank God) About two hours filling the kegs. and 5 hours mixing in the yeast and sweetener. All together 1800 liters Applewine, and 50 liters sweet applejuice heated and bagged. wich took a good 4 hours too.

All in all for juice we squeezed and bottled about 30 Liters, the best harvest so far, and we heated 25 liters for longer storage and the rest left cold pressed in the fridge. No sugar needed as it is sweet enough. As for the picture with the little spider who with his friends helps control any mite or flee invasions was thanked and removed before the mashing of the grapes. It is just something we have been doing for years and enjoy the work put into it every time we open a bottle.
