How To Start A Food Storage Program

Storage food is food that has a longer-than-normal shelf life.  It is usually grains still in their original shells/hulls (like Hard Red Winter Wheat or oat groats) and dehydrated or freeze dried.  Olive oil and honey have natural long shelf lives.  Does that mean you have to invest big bucks into Mountain House or other long-term-survival-food products?  No.  There is plenty you can get at your local supermarket and lengthen its shelf life yourself (such as placing in plastic buckets with oxygen absorbers).

There are other foods that you can get your local markets to order if they don't stock it or order from Walton Feed or beprepared.com or other suppliers:  large bags or pails of wheat (hard red winter and spring), honey (super-long shelf life), and other grains.

Here is a list of long-shelf-life food items available at places such as Wal-Mart or your local supermarket:

Milk, powdered

Potato, flakes

Pasta, all (including Ramen noodles)

Macaroni & Cheese (contains powdered cheese)

Rice, white

Flour

Corn meal

Grits

Oatmeal

Sugar, white

Oil, olive

Peanut butter

Jellies, Jams, Preserves

Beans, dry, various

Vegetables, canned

Meats & fish, canned

Meats, jerky (you can also make your own)

Fruits, canned

Jello

Puddings

Baking items:  baking soda, baking powder

Salt

Boullion cubes

Gravy mixes

Cake mixes

Spices

Hot chocolate, tea, coffee

Drink mixes (Tang, Lemonade, Powdered Tea)

Popcorn (cheap filler / bulk)

Note:  You can get larger sacks of things like flour, sugar, popcorn, etc. at "big box" stores like Sam's, Costco, etc.  Many grocery stores that cater to a Hispanic population usually carries 50-lb. sacks of pinto beans.

Prepare menus for one week. Make your menus from long-term-storage food.  Look at every ingredient you will need to make those meals.  Prepare a list from the ingredients.  That's what you should have on hand for one week.  Now, start collecting those ingredients until you have a week's worth.  (Take into account some things like boullion, salt, sugar, oil, etc. will last longer than a week, so your first week will be higher in cost.)  Now, work on your second week's worth of food. Keep doing this until you have as much as you decide you need.

You can also grow or buy fruits and vegetables in season and dehydrate them inexpensively then vacuum ziploc them for long-term-storage.  You can "can" your own butter, cakes, jello, hamburger easily.  See www.endtimesreport.com (Manna Meals).

Also consider inexpensive barter items such as salt, tea, coffee, ramen, hygiene items, tobacco, etc.  Use these to exchange for other things that you need.

  • I know, Cheryl. It can be very painful and it is hard to make those types of choices in life. I had to do it too. I had friendships for over 40 years....and I cut them off without a single glance of looking back. I had to do it since they were bringing me down. Not coining an old hippy phrase....although that could work well here too! LOL! They were just petty, mean and not spirit-filled people. Just base, in the world and all about prestige, money, big cars, furs, jewels, pretty hair, etc....always trying to one-up or better you. I was always the comforter who came to the rescue at hospitals, took the midnight hour stress calls of tears...and then got stabbed in the back when they were on their feet again. Oh no....that had to stop. I was never like or about to fall into the 'catty bitch' role no matter how they tried to drag me into it! I had to remain true to my real self and dig out! Sometimes you gotta take out a hostage and shoot one to free the rest..........

  • Thanks for the kind words, Ronnie.  The early years were a nightmare, worse than crunching on giant fried bugs.  I lost a dear friend because of her, but I can see now if I hadn't, I wouldn't be where I am now, spiritually, so I think it was meant to not be.

  • PS - just no more crunch BUG dreams, okay?  LOL!!!

    :D

  • Yep I am still here... I will inbox you RLP...

    :)

  • Oh, that woman.....I saw her on some show recently about Planet X. She was playing the role per usual. What pissed me off....she kills off her dogs years ago for no reason, complains she was 'duped' too by the uncertainty of timeline, and poor thing, she just so happened to run up all her credit cards as a senior citizen, and blah blah blah.....pity party ensues.  MEANWHILE, her son is building a community with A frigging DOME OVER IT????? I mean WTF???? Nice to know where all those website donations went. Not helping people in flooded communities, getting food and medical supplies to the children, not for furthering good works or to get the truth out there to warn others. Or even bothering to ensure all the info on her website is relevant and ACCURATE for those who do stumble upon her information. OH NO...no, no...all that money had gone into to getting her DOMED DOMAIN put up so SHE has a nifty place to sit out the torrential tides and rollicking earth changes!! I was livid when I saw that!!!! What a hypocrite!!! She damned the elite left and right for DOMs, and she is doing the SAME THING!!!!!! Grrrrrrrr!! That phony boloney bitch! Pardon my expletives, but she gets my dander UP!

Yeah, I remember that whole fiasco like it was yesterday. How fast the worm turns, huh? She only wanted to put herself out in front and be the 'go to' person and face when allegedly the world eventually woke up and came to see the light. She'd even toss the Zeta's under the bus and to the wayside while reaping all the credit and glory for herself! LOL! What a piece of work.

You have ALWAYS maintained a high standard of professionalism, compassionate, clever, and kept your integrity throughout that entire ordeal...even through it all, her mud tossing episodes especially! That woman has no class, no compassion, and is just as bad as the elite she condemns!! Your site is first class and contains RELEVANT, ACCURATE and updated material always. Whenever I want to find out the truth about a topic such as earth changes or current events.....I come HERE. Thanks to your perseverance, people have a credible resource to find help and pertinent information!

Thank you so much Cheryl, for all you have done and continue to do for so many!!  :)

  • Yah, I was saying EWWWWW, too, Ronnie.  I don't know where that dream came from, other than out of the blue.  It was crunchy, though.  Mmmm.

We passed our 7th anniversary back around the first of July, so we are into our 8th year now.  Remember when Nancy said we would imploded after we reached 100 members?  Hahahahahaha!

  • KIM!! Good to see you around and still kicking too! Man, we are all the stalwarts, are we not? LOL! How long has it been, Cheryl? We've been here from the beginning...wow....long time!!

  • EWWWWW! Cheryl!!!!????

You better eat some 'happy' food to create better dreams than that!!! LOL! OMG, that was just too funny!

  • Right, Jim.  What I had learned is that sometimes the O2 packets could sit in warehouses and lose their strength by the time they got to you, so lesson learned is to make sure it works (like you said) and not just trust it does, only to find out later it didn't.
