Norwegian woman who reported being raped in Dubai is jailed for 16 months

A young Norwegian woman has been sentenced to 16 months in jail after she reported a rape in Dubai.
Marte Deborah Dalelv has been detained in Dubai since the assault in March. She has now been found guilty of sex outside marriage, drinking alcohol without a license and perjury and was jailed for 16 months
Dubai police did not believe her, and instead took her passport and jailed her on suspicion of having had sex outside marriage.
The Norwegian woman reported the sexual assault in March this year, after which she had to spend days in a cell before she was allowed to use a telephone.
With the help of family members, the Norwegian consulate was able to negotiate a release and she has been living under the protection of the Norwegian Sailor’s Church until her sentencing this week.
‘I received the harshest sentence for sex outside marriage, harshest sentence for drinking alcohol and on top of that I was found guilty of perjury,’ the woman told Verdens Gang.
‘It is a terrible situation she is in,’ said Gisle Meling, the priest at the Norwegian Sailor’s Church.
‘We are very surprised and had hoped it would go another way, but we live in a country which has a justice system which draws its conclusions with the help of Sharia law.’
She was sentenced to one year and four months in jail but as Norway has no extradition treaty with Dubai, her future is uncertain.
The young Norwegian woman’s story is not unique.
Earlier this year Australian Alicia Gali, 27, spoke of how she was thrown in a Dubai jail for eight months after she reported a rape.
Miss Gali was working at hotel chain Starwood when her drink was spiked in the staff bar.
She awoke to find that three colleagues had raped her, but when she went to a hospital for help, they turned her over to the police and she was charged with illicit sex outside marriage.
Under UAE law, rapists can only be convicted if either the perpetrator confesses or if four adult Muslim males witness the crime.
Under the Sharia-influenced laws, sex before marriage is completely forbidden and an unmarried couple holding hands in public can be jailed.

We are seeing a lot of good signs that there is an awakening going on.
Another positive sign was the men who formed a barrier to protect the female protesters in Egypt. Not all Muslim men act like that, usually the better educated they are, the more rational they are.
I am glad to hear the Norweign woman is free.
That is great news I guess media pressure did the job like when the woman in Iran was going to be stoned to death for adultery last year.
Marte Deborah Dalelv is now free. Norway has put a lot of pressure over Dubai. She was given her passport yesterday and can leave when she wants. In the mean time, the police is looking for the rapist, a Sudanees man whom Miss Dalely was working on a project with him.

I watched a video from a Muslin TV channel in the UK that was titled " How to beat your wife properly" another on female sexual mutilation preformed by a holy man anther one on Honor killings, that is about if your sister is caught talking to another man out of wedlock, to honor your family you must kill her, burying her alive is common. If a woman is accused of adultery in some places she is buried to her waist and stoned to death. Turkey has been trying to stop honor killings and a woman in Iran was saved from being stoned when the world was outraged. It is OK to marry a 7 year old but you are not allowed to penetrate her till she is 9. Islam is not a religion it is a perverted socialist writing.
Sometime in the near future this abuse will be stopped. The sooner, the better.

The female molesting got so bad in the recent Egyptian protests the women had to be moved to there own protest area where many men surrounded them to protect them, to stop the assaults.
Disgustingly unjust!
In the Muslim world women are considered to be worth less than a goat. Even under Sunni law there no convictions for rape. The laws come with the teaching of Islam and there are some worse than this. Some sects cut the women's clitoris off so women can not enjoy sex this is done up to age 14. This is part of the reason Egypt threw out the Muslim brotherhood. Even though what they had was not good the Sharia law was worse.
