I have signed up to Facebook, only as a means to an end, in case there some reason to read  the website. nothing more. I have not entered any information about myself, only my name. now they have sent me an email asking me to reset my password. So, I clicked the link, and entered my Facebook password, but this has been rejected instead, they want the actual password I use to log on to my email account with my Internet supplier!!!!!!!!!!!!

THis has sent the alarm bells sounding full blast and the red lights are blazing all over my house. I know they are a CIA front and the NSA trawls Facebook using Carnivore and Promise software and such, but to actually ask fro the password to my email account is one step too far. in theory it will give someone access to my account to intercept my messages and even hack into it.

Now, this is very worrying, so I hope one or more of you look into this and beware. A little knowledge goes a hell of a long way.

I have reason to suspect I am being monitored, for reasons I am quite happy to share with you. maybe we are all monitored on this website at least.

  • it is not the other users that are the problem, read my post very shortly, on Romaso/COIN  , might be very interesting.......

  • I forgot to say, most important, delete your Facebook password from your browsers password manger, so, if you do inadvertently get onto facebook, you can't be logged in, that seems to make sense.

  • the answer is to then stop answering emails, treat them as junk, set junk mail controls so every facebook goes int the rash. not that easy bit fiddly but it can be done. I was thinking of deleting my account after all this but there absolutely no data save my name and email. nothing more. so, I may leave it at that. and who is ti say, by deleting your account, a phantom copy is not made and kept on some agencies computer base? one other point, when you deactivate the account, there is a check box and i clicked tells facebok t stop sending emails, I did that.

  • Thanks, Cheryl.. I will double check...

  • What do they expect to gather off of facebook?  Only reason I signed up 2 years ago was because my one cousin kept sending me invites.  And most of my extended family is on facebook and it is nice to stay in touch with family members who live far from me.  All they will get from me and my family is stuff like fart jokes, cow jokes, etc. etc (not going to elaborate).

  • Dianna, you deleted it rather than deactivated it?  Deactivation doesn't delete anything.  It just pulls your page from view but you still get emails and answer just one and you're sucked right back in.

  • well, looks like the democratic rules win , so, I will go for deletion, I must see what Cheryl has to say, you are a most awakened lot , on this forum , I have a very nice post to make later on something very close to all this, maybe in the morning, should be interesting........

  • I closed my account last Fall, also... I just hope it is erased... Best exit stage right... (In plain English... get out)

  • So, I should delete my account? i would think it easier to change my email, but what can happen by simply doing nothing? there is absolutely no information about me on Facebook, just my name.  what do you think?

  • I will leave it at that and may change my email at some time in the future. I wonder what Nancy has to say... no, better leave it at that!!! If I get any emails from Facebook I can always run junk controls.
