Mt. Rokatenda spews ash, hundreds evacuated

JakartaPost.com

Mount Rokatenda in Sikka regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), continues to spout volcanic ash. Residents living around the volcano have reportedly been evacuated to the shelter at Hewuli village administrative office in Alok Barat district. The Sikka Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reports that 196 residents living around Mount Rokatenda had fled to Maumere city.

The ash cloud from Mount Rokatenda has affected water kept in tanks on the roofs of houses around the volcano. Residents have collected rain water to offset the impact of an eruption. As many as six of 109 Awa village residents in the shelters have been taken to Maumere regency hospital suffering from various illnesses, such as respiratory, eye and skin irritation.

A team from Sikka Health Office recently provided evacuees with medical treatment against influenza, cough and respiratory infections. Sikka BPBD head Silvanus M. Tibo said the alert status of the volcano remained at level 3, with the highest being 1, according to the report from the Rokatenda volcano observation post in Ropa, Ende regency, so the volcano is not yet considered dangerous.

19.11.2012 Biological Hazard New Zealand Northland, [Manukau Harbour ] Damage level Details

….

Biological Hazard in New Zealand on Monday, 19 November, 2012 at 06:08 (06:08 AM) UTC.

Description
A public health warning to people collecting shellfish along Auckland’s coastline has been extended. On Saturday, the Auckland Regional Public Health Service said routine shellfish toxin testing from the Manukau Harbour showed high levels of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, which could cause paralysis or respiratory failure in extreme cases. The expanded area now incorporates shellfish collected from Mohakatino (Taranaki) north to Maunganui Bluff (north of Dargaville), as well as the Manukau and Kaipara Harbours. Shellfish including kina, mussels, toheroa, pipis, tuatua, oysters, cockles and scallops taken from the affected areas should not be eaten and officials stressed cooking them would not remove the poison. Paua, crayfish and crabs can still be taken, however the gut should be removed before cooking. It is safe to eat the flesh of fish, but not the guts of fish that feed on algae or shellfish. Symptoms of the poisoning usually occur within 12 hours after eating shellfish containing the toxins and can include numbness and tingling around the mouth, face or extremities, difficulty swallowing or breathing, dizziness and double vision or worse. Shellfish and seawater samples would continue to be tested regularly by the Ministry for Primary Industries.
Biohazard name: Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP)
Biohazard level: 0/4 —
Biohazard desc.: This does not included biological hazard category.

The public are being warned not to collect or eat any shellfish from a large stretch of the North Island’s west coast found to have high levels of toxins.

The affected area extends from Mohakatino (located in Taranaki) north to Maunganui Bluff (just north of Dargaville), including the Manukau and Kaipara Harbours.

“Ongoing monitoring has shown high levels of Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) present in shellfish along this coastline. People should take note of the areas that contain high levels of PSP and avoid collecting shellfish in these areas,” Auckland medical officer of health, Dr Simon Baker, said.

Dr Clair Mills, Northland DHB medical officer of health, said anyone eating toxic shellfish is potentially at risk of illness.

“Cooking shellfish does not remove the toxin,” she said.

People are being advised to avoid kina, mussels, pipis, tuatua, toheroa, oysters, cockles and scallops in the affected areas. Paua, crayfish and crabs can still be taken, however the gut should be removed before cooking.

Symptoms of PSP poisoning usually come about around 12 hours after eating affected shellfish.

These include numbness and tingling around the mouth and face, dizziness and difficulties with swallowing or breathing.

In severe cases, PSP can cause paralysis and respiratory failure.

What seceding from the U.S. will cost you

Another link from PatR....

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/what-seceding-from-the-us-will-cost-you-2012-11-16

Your state wants to secede from the union. What will this mean for your taxes?

I have good news and bad news. The good news is really good. But the bad news is really, really bad.

We’ll get to them in a moment.

Talk of secession is in the air. The White House this week confirmed that residents in all fifty states had submitted petitions asking to leave the union. Will the last one left please turn out the lights?

Residents in seven states, all in the former Confederacy, submitted more than 30,000 signatures each — enough that some hapless bureaucrat or intern will now have to take a look at their petitions.

The news comes 150 years after the Civil War, and just in time for Steve Spielberg’s biopic of Abraham Lincoln, the man whom we have to thank — if that’s the word I want — for the continued forcible marriage of the once-independent states.

It’s only a couple of years since Texas governor Rick Perry hoisted a rhetorical secessionist flag in response to Obamacare. In the last few years, anti-federal “10th Amendment” resolutions, emphasizing the primacy of states’ rights versus those of the union, have passed the legislatures of 12 states in the South and West. In five states, the governors signed them, too. (The 10th Amendment to the Constitution says states’ rights come before those of the federal government. The last time anyone in Washington actually paid attention to it, the ink was still wet.)

But what would any of this actually mean for your taxes?

...

The upside is you will be liberated from the sheer living hell of the federal tax code.

I don’t care where you live, and how badly run your local state government is. Nothing could be worse than this monstrosity. I once calculated that it was three times as long as the complete works of William Shakespeare. The instruction booklet for citizens, once two pages long, is now pushing 200.

The federal tax code is the kind of punishment victors used to impose on conquered peoples, along with the gouging of eyes and the rack. That was in the days before the Geneva Convention. I still don’t understand why, in this country, people are simultaneously considered so monumentally stupid that everything has to come with idiotic warnings on the side (“Caution: Do not jab fork repeatedly in eye, or injury may result”), and yet are considered so brilliant that they can maneuver through Schedule C, Schedule F, Schedule X, calculate your passive losses, divide by the shoe size of your sixth grade primary school teacher, carry the 7 unless it’s a Thursday, and multiply by the square root of the I.Q. of the guy next to you on the bus, and so on.

It’s not the total amount of federal tax dollars I pay which makes me want to put on a grey uniform, it’s the awful, awful process.

Secede, and you will never have to file a federal tax return again. Bliss. That’s the good news.

Alas, there’s also some bad news.

For most of you in the New Confederacy of the South and West, if you secede you will end up paying more in taxes than you do now, and you will get fewer government services. Forget the so-called “fiscal cliff.” We’re talking about a fiscal Death Star. Your economies will go into recession, and fast.

This week has been one hell of a crazy roller coaster! Massive ups followed by quick downs as the intel geysered like an open fire hydrant one minute then dried up for endless hours at a time the next. Smoke rolling out so thick you could walk on it all the way to the moon, followed by actual facts that left me stunned speechless.

I was hoping to be able to tell a lot more today about what's going on, but these guys seem to think that their time schedule is far more important than mine. The nerve, I tell ya! Sheeeesh!!

- Orders were given last week:

- More very important papers signed, freeing much waited upon money to go forth and spread across the world- more importantly, freeing people from the bondage of a couple of corporations that have been masquerading as something official.

- If you are one of the people that decided to "risk it" and sign up for that prosperity package that was posted on the internet last week: Congratulations, you lucky dogs!!! For those of you who didn't trust it, don't worry, there will be more opportunities to jump on the band wagon very very soon. (I have a feeling that the post office and various other couriers are going to be awfully busy for the next little while).

-Since it's been leaked all over the various dinar "intel" sites, I guess it's not really a secret any more that certain financial institutions are showing some very interesting rates on their screens. I have received multiple confirmations on this.

- Around the world everything is being prepared. As I said last week: This is not an American thing. When it all rolls out, you will be gob smacked by the magnitude of what has been accomplished.

- A side note to those who's greed got the better of them: Seriously? What? A couple of billion wasn't enough for you? You just had to have more? You had it all, and now, because of your degenerate gluttonous greed (and blatant stupidity) it's all gone gone gone. Serves you right you pigs.

- You may notice new fashion trends amongst the elite. I've heard that baggy pants are now all the rage- good thing that slouch boots are fashionable again for the ladies. ... they wouldn't want the public to get jealous of those new anklets they're sporting, now would they?

And that's all I can say for now....

Greetings and Salutations,

Have a joyous future. When playing high stakes poker, a good practitioner hears an inner click of when to walk away. Accept the wins or losses as they sit and be done with the game. There was an audible click this past week, the last tumbler in the vault dropped into place. They never get the cart before the horse and they are good about cleaning up behind the horse. No one wants to do this again, shift the wealth of the world??? The foreclosure, the world will be talking about sometime into future. Earth Watch Report - Power Outage - Storms

Details

....

Power Outage in Australia on Saturday, 17 November, 2012 at 12:11 (12:11 PM) UTC.

Description
A fire started, powerlines were ripped down, trees were uprooted and roofs collapsed as severe thunderstorms ripped across Queensland and caused mass electricity outages. About 13,000 homes and business in Brisbane, Ipswich and Somerset were left without power as rain, hail and lightning struck the region at about 11am (AEST) on Saturday. In Ipswich, a small grass fire was sparked when lightning struck a crane next to the city's hospital just after 10am but the incoming rain extinguished it, a Department of Community Services (DCS) spokeswoman said. In Ann Street in the CBD, a hotel roof collapsed under the storm while another 72 calls for assistance were made asking for help with leaking roofs and fallen trees, "It turned day into night," a SES worker said. "It came quickly and then it left." By 6.30pm about 300 homes remained without power, with the majority of the outages continuing in the Algester area south of Brisbane. An Energex spokeswoman said they were unsure as to when power would be returned to the area as the repairs were "complicated".

"We are working through the problems and doing it as quickly as we can," she said. More than 11,000 lightning strikes were recorded across Queensland's southeast since 10am, with Energex receiving reports of more than 100 powerlines down. Despite the widespread outages, the situation was not as bad as they have seen, the spokeswoman said. "In our storm season we can see 20,000 to 30,000 lose power so 13,000 is really reasonable for us," she said. But she said Energex was looking towards Toowoomba to see if the second forecast storm would wreak more damage. On Saturday evening the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) was continuing to send out severe weather warnings for much of the state. "Very dangerous thunderstorms" were detected at a weather radar near Oakey, west of Brisbane, at about 6.30pm. The thunderstorms were forecast to move towards the northeast and to hit Haden, Cooyar and the area north of Crows Nest, Blackbutt, Yarraman and the area north of Cooyar.

Description
Spain’s meteorological agency has placed the southern region bordering the Mediterranean on alert due to torrential rain that has submerged the downtown area of the region’s capital city. Malaga, on the Costa del Sol, one of Europe’s most popular beachside tourist destinations, has endured almost five inches 5 inches (13 centimeters) of rain from midnight to midday Saturday, the agency said. Television footage showed torrents of water plunging rapidly downhill through streets and the city’s main shopping quarter chest-deep in muddy water with hours more heavy rain still expected to fall. The rain caused large traffic jams as tunnels and boulevards flooded. Local media reports said the coast had also been hit by a mini-tornado.

Description
Heavy rains for the last two days, together with waterspouts on Saturday morning, have caused flooding in Málaga province, with the worse incidences being in the capital city of Málaga. With the province still recovering from the flooding in September 2012, it has now happened again. From around 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, emergency calls were coming in for more than 300 incidents, caused by heavy rains and flooding in the province of Málaga. The Andalucian government delegation activated the Emergency Flood Plan at level 1. Most of the emergency calls were from Málaga city, with flooded homes, garages, premises, cellars and road network problems. Fortunately, so far no injuries or deaths have been reported. The rise in the level of streams and rivers has caused some flooding in Málaga city, particularly Paseo de Sancha, and in the Casabermeja orchard. Many branches, trees and other objects are lying in the roads due to the wind and heavy rains. The problems apparently started with three waterspouts which occurred consecutively. Several of the main arteries of Málaga city, including Avenida de Andalucía, have been flooded, with trash bins swept away by the waters, and some residents had to use their canoes to move in areas such as the Pedregalejo promenade. The Cerrado de Calderón traffic tunnel, part of the ring road of Málaga, was temporarily cut by landslides this morning in the direction of Cadiz but has already been reopened. The Guadalmedina River, which runs through the center of the city is usually dry, but today was awash with water.

Description
Trees were uprooted, balconies, roof tiles and framework ripped off, windows shattered and vehicles tossed for metres. Many local residents were affected by the freak incident in which the entire neighbourhood was reduced to tatters and people were seriously injured. Panicking parents rushed to a nearby-by school to collect their children who were in class when the tornado hit, and billboards on a nearby roundabout were mangled. The exact extent of the damage and seriousness of the injuries is still being calculated but initial assessments suggest thirteen people were injured, three of whom seriously. The State Secretary for Welfare and Social Security has confirmed that four families, a total of eleven people, six of whom minors, need to be rehomed. Abel Silva, born and raised in Lagoa, saw his ground-floor apartment destroyed in the terrifying incident which last merely minutes.

"It was overwhelming. All of a sudden my windows started shaking, the ground was trembling. I tried to hold the windows but I saw they were going to blow I so I threw myself to the side. The entire house has been destroyed. I've never seen anything like this before." People in a nearby cafe said: "The sky turned pitch black, the wind became so dense you could see it, and it seemed like everything was shaking. The windows were rattling. A metal sheet from a nearby building site was ripped up. We were told to get back and stand away from the windows. The power went out. It was like something from a movie." GNR police confirmed that there were serious injuries and many families have been left temporarily homeless. Emergency services were drafted in from neighbouring districts to try to bring the pandemonium under control. The National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC) dispatched emergency services to Lagoa and Silves from as far away as Beja, Setatildebal and Avora. Bad weather including strong winds, thunder and lightening tormented the Algarve today on Friday. There was a power shortage in Lagos caused by persistent stormy weather, the village of Ferragudo and city of Albufeira flooded, and damage was caused to several locations across the region.

Residents in Silves told The Portugal News "it looks like a bomb has hit it." Eyewitness reports said a glass dome that once sat on top of the Town Hall shattered. In Alvor a roof was ripped off a school and a cafe-kiosk in the heart of the village was completely removed from its spot. Around 226 men and women and 68 vehicles were sent to the cities. Information from the ANPC website confirms 13 people were injured as a result of the tornado and no deaths were caused. An emergency rescue helicopter was also dispatched at 2.55pm but later retracted. The Weather Institute (IM) placed the Algarve under orange alert - a warning of moderate to high risk meteorological situation. Heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds and thunder were predicted, but thankfully proved unfounded.

Description
New Zealand authorities are urging climbers and hikers to stay away from the summit of Mt Ruapehu after warnings the volcano could erupt. A summit hazard zone - the area within two kilometres of the centre of Crater Lake - should be avoided, the Department of Conservation's Ruapehu area manager Jonathon Maxwell said on Friday. The warning did not affect nearby Mt Tongariro or the popular Tongariro Alpine Crossing, but people should be aware of an increased possibility of lahars (mudflows containing volcanic matter) in streams on the Round the Ruapehu Mountain track. On Friday morning, GNS Science said pressure was building under Mt Ruapehu and there was an increased chance it will erupt. The aviation alert level around the central North Island has been raised to yellow - suggesting unrest above background levels - but the volcanic alert level remains unchanged at "signs of unrest". GNS Science volcanologist Steven Sherburn says the changes make scientists believe eruptions are more likely in the coming weeks to months. "We are monitoring Ruapehu closely, but it often does not give any immediate warning that it is going to erupt," he said. "We think that the temperature a few hundred metres beneath Crater Lake is about 800C, but the lake itself is only about 20C. "This suggests the vent is partly blocked which may be leading to a pressure build-up beneath Crater Lake. "A sudden release of the pressure may lead to an eruption." Since late October small earthquakes have recorded about five kilometres beneath Ruapehu's summit, but they may not be directly related to the high temperatures beneath Crater Lake.
