I have an autistic grand son and a granddaughter with Lyme's disease in the same family. My oldest son handles it very well and I would not. Silence is our downfall. I had a friend who was paraplegic and drove his wheelchair as fast as he could through the streets of Reno hoping a car would put him out of his misery. He was highly intelligent.
One of my cousins in France was born a healthy baby. He must be about 60 now. His Mother was persuaded to give him a polio jab when she really did not want to. Within a very short time, it was obvious something was seriously, seriously wrong. He became listless and over dribbling. He is basically a twisted and contorted, dribbling Steven Hawking style mess living in an institution. Trapped in a broken body. Fortunately his family have the funds to keep him in one of the best homes available for the most severely disabled like him, but I know that he is a prisoner (in his body) in there. He can only communicate with a keyboard and can barely move. Yet he has mental faculties and understanding. It is a hideous site to behold, especially when I saw him surrounded by many other patients all in the same condition.
