High heat in Death Valley pushed the mercury up to 128 degrees Fahrenheit about three weeks ago, far above what's normal there for this time of year. And another round of above-average heat was building in the region, which could send temperatures just as high over the weekend.

Sunday's high in Death Valley is forecast to reach 130 degrees, which would be within four degrees of the record of 134 F set there in 1913. The 134-degree mark happens to be the world record for the highest temperature ever measured on Earth. AccuWeather forecasts show that the RealFeel could reach 132 degrees Sunday in Death Valley.

  • Grand Junction, where I'm at is a "High Desert Valley" where TWO major rivers converge, hence "GRAND" junction.  The valley is approximately 30 miles long and about 12 miles wide, in most places.  The Colorado River runs from East to West, and the Gunnison River flows into it from the South.  Shortly on downstream the Dolores River comes in, and then shortly the Green River joins the Colorado in Utah.  The Colorado then flows on down through the Grand Canyon into Lake Powell, and then flows on down into Lake Meade near Las Vegas.  The Colorado still hits Lake Havasu  before emptying into the Sea of Cortez near Yuma Arizona.  Many of the Major western rivers are headwatered here in Colorado. Those coming to mind are : Colorado, Gunnison, South Platt, Arkansas, and the Rio Grande.... We have most of the peaks that are over 14,000 feet high. There are over 200 cold water lakes within a 50 mile radius of G.J.  I've got a canoe, but haven't gotten out this year yet.....
