Gavins Point Dam cracked and about to explode!
Weather this is true or not. I'm taking this VERY serous. Since I live right next to the Missouri River. This wall cause HUGE death and destruction up and down the river. Major villages, towns, and city's will be wiped clean. I just hope this is a fake. If not. Then God forbid!

Well as I had mentioned in a previous blog about the dam; we went fishing a lot at the Yankton dam last year; the first gate wasn't open, some of the others were, resulting in a nice quiet area on the north side of the bottom part of the dam right where the water comes out - we put our lines in the water, but the wierd thing was, when you'd think the line would quit because of the cement corner there, the line pointed towards the northern cement wall, grabbed a current, and kept going. My construction hubby said "Oh boy there is a hole there!!".......and then a week later, suddenly, in the ground on that same north side, there were vertical metal "culverts" put into the ground - and looks like they would have connected right where that hole would be going - and there had been no digging that I could see, to have done access to what would have been the horizontal tunneling. They finished the job and capped them with cement. You can still see them if you look, hiding in the grass, but was much easier to see when they were putting them in - hubby thinks they are kinda like "pressure release" valves.....
So, even last summer we had concerns about the Gavins Point dam!!!

The way I understand, it is not stringing explosives on the dam. They are not letting the water release to keep the structure at safe levels, thus keeping the dam intact, but have tightened the sluces shut so the water gets higher behind, and the pressure intensifies, finally resulting in rupture. Again, just what I understand. Making it look like a natural disaster, but it is illustrated.
Yea I hope the story isn't true - but of course, as in the article in the Yankton paper (just posted by Alex) where they said:
“I saw it,” U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District Commander Col. Bob Ruch said during a conference call Sunday evening. “Whether it’s a joke or a hoax, that’s what the Internet allows. If you want the truth, come to our webpage and sit in on these (conference calls). We’re not stringing explosives on the dam. It’s not cracking. It’s performing as designed.”
Of course, what else could they say? If true or not, that is the only possible public answer - for myself I am REALLY hoping they don't do anything like that - imagine the horrible devestation to downstream - AND I will be busy next to the south side of the river next couple days getting the Yankton shoot site ready for the fireworks show - this is NOT when I feel like hanging out next to the river!!! Will be keeping my ears open, and the gas tank full....
Just figured I should post the other side of the story here.... I really can't say who is telling the truth.....
