"MUST READ" Book List

We need to start a 'must read' book list. Several members have mentioned books, and I've intended to see if my local library has them. I found one, but can't find the other title. If these could be added to a blog list, it would be helpful.

I'm here without pen and pencil, and didn't think to start a document --- now I can't find the blog with the other title. Edina posted the title of one of them - One Second After, I stopped reading the blog to order it from my library. The other sounded good, also. I remember a male member posted that title... but which blog or topic? Don't recall.

And, thanks Edina for the reference to the Community Crisis Planning article on the Survivalblog site.

  • I happened upon the title of the other book referred to in the OP, the one posted by a male - Keith H. posted about it -- The Real History of the End of the World by Sharan Newman.

  • Cheryl's thread https://earthchanges.ning.com/profiles/blogs/what-can-we-do-to-help made me think of Linda Runyon's book on edible plants: http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Wild-Food-Survival-Guide/dp/0936699...

Your Welcome msred.  I think this is a good idea....  Just want to make sure that if this list happens to grow that it doesn't overwhelm newcomers to the Ning, down the line.  I sometimes wonder how we can keep our eyes and ears open to help new people deal with overwhelm when they are initially confronted with so much information.  It's been a concern for me.

One Second After is a good book.

I thought I would link the books msred mentioned above to make it a bit easier for someone to follow through.  Amazon has the ereaders that Alex talks about, and probably even has the solar chargers, as well.  If someone wants to follow through on that. Most of their books are available for Kindle, and other ereaders. Alex's suggestion is a top notch idea, especially if you anticipate being mobile in the AfterTime.

I use their search tools to glean a lot of data on a particular subject.  I learned about this research technique in a marketing class. It's cool how much a person could learn, free, this way.

The blog msred mentioned is Ma-Ga's blog End of Days to Come on 5/11/2011?? . We were talking about the movie The Road, which was a book first by Cormac McCarthy. The story behind how this book got written is almost as interesting as the book itself. Cormac was visited by a group of men and holed up several days while they talked about things no one really knows about.  When these men left, Cormac wrote this book...  Be forewarned, this book is not easy to read, the movie is very difficult to watch...

One Second After this book has a forward from Newt Gringrich, carries some weight with some people, so it may also be helpful in starting prep conversations with people you care for.  I'm saving a copy for our county guy...

SurvivalBlog Cheryl turned me on to this site when she mentioned it over at Gerard's blog, last January, she is Economatrix at that site, thanks Cheryl!!!!!

Community Crises Planning for a Societal Collapse by JIR Keith Hasemeyer has linked to this article in another blog, and I have it linked somewhere in the comments of some of the AfterTime Living material. This comes from SurvivalBlog.  The contributors over there are really analysing action-oriented plans.  The real value isn't just in the reading, it's when you start to think and express these ideas in your own words.  This is something I would love to see us do more over here, only in the context of our belief systems.  This is one of the reasons why I asked Cheryl to set up AfterTime Living.  To give people some space here to do that sort of thing. It takes time to do this, not everyone's cup of tea. If you go to SurvivalBlog, you may very well get overwhelmed with the vast reservior of info there.  Come in to AfterTime Living and start talking... this is what I'm into right now, making the transition into applying the knowledge in my own life.

  • Okay how about these?

    James Redfield Books

The Celestine Prophecy, The Tenth Insight, The Celestine Vision, & The Secret of Shambhala.

I found these very helpful in learning about intuition! Great for learning about how important it is to keep your energy high so helping others is easier by learning to use intuition will help most of us in the future!

A glance at a restaurant, or at a check point may be just the intuition that may help you along your path!

  • Will do. I will likely start the topic on January 5. Trying to tend to some other issues and matters on this end.

    Thanks...

  • I've been looking at the process and trying to find a way for the average person to know how to do this, Yes, I am interested, I don't know about anyone else.  If you start the topic, I'll join you.

I cannot recommend a book, but I can give you a procedure for resetting calendars if you are interested. Since it is a complex issue and involves some detail, it would probably be better off if it was discussed in a new topic. I will start one if you and the others are interested. Let me know.

  • Thanks John, you are right on about Velikovsky, James McCanny referenced much of his work from Immanuel.  McCanny's book with the instructions on how to rebuild a calendar, determining where you are and what season you are in after a Pole Shift is good.  Do you know of another good book about resetting our calendars?

Immanuel Velikovsky has taken a lot of bad press for what he has written, but funny thing is, a lot of what he has written about has either come to pass, or has been right on target. I would like to recommend two of his books: Worlds in Collision, and Ages in Chaos. Read them carefully, twice if you can, and pay close attention to the volumes of references he uses, and to the history, and keep this in mind as you read his books: History has a way of repeating itself; maybe not exactly as before, but it does repeat itself.

  • This are very helpful suggestions Alex, thanks!!!!!

I have compiled a pretty extensive collection of books for various topics, I also have a nice collection of books in PDF format, which have been copied over to my gf's e-reader.  I will post a complete list of books later today when I get home and actually have a chance to go through them.  I do have to mention that Desertrose played a big part in supplementing my PDF collection.

On a side note I would highly recommend to everyone to invest in some form of e-reader along with the means to charge it in the worst case scenario(much easier to carry than a 40lb collection of books, try 2.5lbs at the most).  I have purchased a back pack with solar cells meant for recharging cell phones while on hikes.  It works perfectly with e-readers/ipods.  Or you can simply go to a small science shop,  pick up a few solar cells run a little wire and set something up for yourself.  Just a little recommendation.
