After a run of particularly wet weather for New Zealand’s Gisborne region, one location has beaten its record for the highest January rainfall since 1937.

Gisborne Airport has recorded 241.3 mm (9.5 inches) of rain since the start of January, surpassing its previous monthly record of 232.8 mm (9.1 inches) set in January 1961.

A substantial amount of this rain fell on Tuesday, January 10, when Cyclone Hale was in the vicinity.
