The governments don't think we can handle the truth, Paul.... and most people can't. They'd panic, quit going to work, start hoarding things, etc. Crime would explode. MAYBE they'll tell you the day before it happens....probably NOT!
If true why are governments and NASA don't disclose. The ISS should see this clearly
