I do know canned goods (fruit, veggies, beans, soup, ravioli, etc) are great items to store. Also rice, ready to eat dehydrated meals, pasta, and dry beans. Is there anything else that we can add to this list?
I do have some materials if necessary such as a hand siphon pump (to get water out of my well), a hand crank radio and flash light, and home made soap. I am trying to fill in the holes here. Also will be stocked on tp, lol.
How many months do we all need to stock up for?

Remember, rats have very sharp teeth and can gnaw through many things. You might want to store food in metal trash cans and have some cats around to patrol the basement/garage/barn. Dogs are good to alert you to strangers. However, a small dog can bark as loud as a big dog and doesn't eat near as much.

The Rats rule, good idea.

Garbage bags (maybe more necessary in cities than rurally). What if the trash pick ups don't happen?
That's covered here!

Such as tomato based foods? Probably better in glass jars.

Thanks for the pointers. I will be stocking up on things I can eat like rice, beans, peanut butter etc. Gluten free crackers, gf flour, corn starch. I wont be stocking up on wheat flour since I am allergic.
I do have a deep freezer and a freezer out in the garage. Plus I have a very large basement for storage.

Nobody knows. If things go the same in this area (meaning I can get to Walmart whenever I need to), just stocking up on things that disappeared first might be enough. But with no way of knowing, it's hard to prepare. I went ahead and added 30 more lbs. of flour to the 25 lbs. I already have (and never used). I got yeast now (because once it went out of stock it never came back, the commercial bakers got it all until recently). The bottom line is how much money do you have to spend and how much room do you have to store it all. I'm starting to collect cans of powdered milk. Maybe another large olive oil or two. I have eight boxes of butter (32 sticks) in the freezer, a large container of coconut oil, and I plan to get a large peanut oil (to rehydrate the powdered peanut butter). More cold cereal. More oatmeal and pancake syrup. Kool-aid. POPCORN. Nuts. Dried fruits. Canned meals (chili, beef stew, sloppy Joe's, soups, chicken and dumplings, etc.) More gravies and sauces and boullion. I'm also stocking up on a lot of hard candy I get at the dollar store. When things start getting edgy, I break out the candy jars and things settle down.
I am hearing 6 months to two years , Acidic foods do not last as long in cans.
