  • Want to learn morse code try this web site!

    http://www.learnmorsecode.com/

There is a lot more!;D Just click on some of the links your find free software to do packet, SST(slow scan tv) on your computer that is attached to your Transceiver.
  • It helps to have a ham in the group that can help others learn the hard earned tricks of the hobby.

Thanks Bill, A lot of very helpful information. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff.
  • Great find Bill :)
  • I found a Company that sells Kits!

Can have them built our you can build them.

  • If anyone has Questions just ask I check this back.
  • Using a packet controller between your Transceiver(CB, HF) and computer will allow you to send messages quickly and could setup a backbone(like a aol type bulletin board). Any Transceiver can be made to work with a controller!
Some controllers are small plug in to a com port attach the premade wires for your radio, install software and get ready to send/receive Data.
I use a PAKRATT Model PK-232 Multi-Mode Controller very old in electronics standard. I have a backup unit MFJ Multi-Mode Data Controller Model MFJ-1278.
When I first started it took awhile to get them working I had to make up the cables ends for my radio then learn the PAKRATT system. Operations MANUAL www.repeater-builder.com/aea/pk232/pk232mbx-operating-manual.pdf
The newer stuff should be much easier!

  • This EMP that is coming will knock out anything connected to the grid that is not protected, possibly destroying the protecting equipment because of the long wire theory! The longer the wire the more current induced by the cutting thou the magnetic wave particles the is pushed from one place to another. Overcrowding of these particles causes this sudden quick movement, the faster it moves the shorter the wire can be and still get this charge.

Protecting your Memory Chips, CD's & Player, DVD's & Player, Digital Cameras, Computer's, CB Radios, Ham Radio Equipment is done by putting it in a Static Proof Bag! Buying a 55gal steel drum filling it with foam put your Equipment in the middle of all that foam seal the Drum shut then bury it is one answer to protecting it from EMP's as well as being destroyed from bouncing all over the place! The best answer where to get these Anti Static Bags is go to a computer shop and ask for them. Keep in mind that Laptops are designed to handle more abuse than desktops, towers!

Now if your a Amateur Radio Operator you already know this. So some of you maybe New Amateur's need to know that all of those great Amateur Satellites will be gone not working, the best answer for that is to build a beam for 40ty meters with chicken wire for a Reflector, Point it straight up it will bounce off of the atmosphere covering about 100miles out from your position. You may want to monitor for awhile to see if there is conflicts you may want to avoid being located by Transmitting too early.

If you just want a simple antenna do a search for "G5RV" will get you a simple dipole that will cover all of the High Frequencies(HF Bands) of Amateur Radio and CB, CB is a HF Radio also!
Next look for a Antenna Tuner if your antenna is not right an Antenna Tuner will save the Day!
You will want to get some deep cycle batteries and electric 400watt wind mills to keep your station up and running!

If you plan on using CB get the SSB type will talk farther.

Setting up a AOL type system between your group and others requires a Radio, Packet Controller, Computer!
There are a number of packet controllers.
Not all Packet Controllers work HF. PK-12 is only for VHF/UHF, single radio packet controller.

Now if you Antenna is directional and you have line of sight (40 mlies or less) to those you want to connect to VHF will do, harder for others to listen in that way. HF will go far and wide even with a directed Antenna.

Just put your zip-code in and the distance you will travel to visit a hamfest at this site:

Linear Amplifiers for Ham will work with CBs! (26.965 MHz - 27.405 MHz) designed to work 1.8MHz to 30MHz. The more modern amps will trigger on seeing tx power coming in from radio not all. However 4watts may not trigger an Ham Linear so may need to go to a CB shop and see what they got! It is not against the law as long as you do not use it till TSHTF!
CBs is Channeled so will make it easier to connect with others using CB's as well.
This one will work with CB's because it only reqiures 3watts for input!

I got a backpack type FT-817nd it doesn't put out enough power to excite a linear amplifier so is not a good Base Station radio. It does cover all Ham Bands! 2Meters/440mhz/6Meters/all HF bands to. I got this radio because it is a Backpack Radio, uses very little power.
All Transceivers take time to get use too. So If interested in one download the Manual first and read it over!!

    I hope this is helpful!
    Great Light to All!
