grape juice

Well, we started yesterday evening and we have finished this evening with our grape juice for the season.

Lots of grapes have been eaten and more still stored to eat in the next week or two, but the vines are now bare. All in all for juice we squeezed and bottled about 30 Liters, the best harvest so far, and we heated 25 liters for longer storage and the rest left cold pressed in the fridge. No sugar needed as it is sweet enough. As for the picture with the little spider who with his friends helps control any mite or flee invasions was thanked  and removed before the mashing of the grapes. It is just something we have been doing for years and enjoy the work put into it every time we open a bottle.

Bachus God.

Helper.

Masher

Press.

Hope everyone has had a good gardening year. !

(although my corn and potato's  where a little weeker)

Prost!

  • Yum.  Yes nice photos.  Unfortunately I did not plant very much this year as no one tilled my garden, and I had to hand spade what I could in the little time I had.  I only have some watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, and some zucchini which the bugs killed already...

  • ok, 2014

I am behind because everything is getting ripe all at one time and time has been flying.

Today we picked about 90% of the fruit off of the peech tree ( we will be making juice on the weekend)

2967661837?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024I have also harvested and frozen over 50 ears of sweetcorn last week and the second larger batch is getting ripre.

2967661970?profile=RESIZE_1024x1024Berries are in the freezer and will be juiced later (a week ore two)

and the grapes are not quite ready .

Hope you like the pics :-)

  • Looking forward to the pics, JAK.

  • My gardening was very good this year.  Zucchini, patty squash, corn, lots of tomatoes, potatoes (got a 5 gallon bucket of those), carrots (need to harvest those) and waiting to harvest my purple cabbage.  I am also waiting till the frost to dig up my sweet potatoes....

  • Hello

New year new season. It is time again for the harvest. It looks good so far and the grapes are there. Maybe more than last year. I'll try to get a few pics in with the cooking this time.

  • Nice pictures desertrose. We grew the same yellow squash two years ago and found it to be the best. It also was a good long storing sort. We also like taking pictures of our garden produce. It is more fun now with a digital camera because you don't have to waite for the film to be developed. I'll have to check If I can find a few of my favorites. We love working with nature and try to pass it on to the kids, when they were little they loved the garden and then with now as young adults they show less interest but It will come back to them in the future. (I hope) Some people see it as a complete waste of time to spend hours for a few pounds of fresh fruit, and canning just uses electricity." I can go to the store and pick up canned tomatoes for 50 cents" It is scary to hear that these people are so addicted to the system that they have been removed so far from nature. For us, well we just need the dirt under our fingernails :-)

  • Good job!

We also had very few wasps and other insects this year.  They came out but then a late freeze killed them off.

  • Beautiful!  I can appreciate all the hard work that made this possible... and congrats to all of you with gardens...

  • Looks great Peter. I wish we just comming out of winter. I am not looking forward to the wet cold days ahead....
