How Accurate Is The Mayan DoomsDay Date?

I have been doing lots of research, and I am trying to figure out how accurate the Mayan doomsday date is. The theorized date is 12/21/12. I have been researching prophecies, and most of the dates of demise points to March. I do believe that change is coming but is it coming on the actual date that is given to us? The Mayans used many different calendars to study the stars. We currently use a Gregorian calendar. I still would like to know exactly how the 12/21/12 date came about. Who was the first person to claim this date as the date that the sun is in the center of the galaxy. Why would the sun be in the center of the galaxy during the winter equinox? Why can't the sun be in the center of the galaxy during the spring equinox? Hence, March 2012

  • That's it!

(Okay, didn't remember it exactly, but close enough.)

  • Yes, disinfo is a real p.i.t.a.  Just remember the cartoon of two Mayans holding a big stone wheel.  One asks "why did you stop at 12/12/12?" and the other replies:  "because I ran out of room!"

There could be a number of factors that could render 12/12/12 incorrect.  Who says it couldn't happen in spring 2013?

  • Who would know where our sun is in relation to the galactic center but space agencies?

Further, stars drift and 12/12/12 could be an approximation.  Or a firm date by the calculators who didn't have knowledge of some factor that was omitted?

  • The problem, Norad seems to be thus. We need to align the Julian calenr with the Mayan, the calendr we are using now. and which Mayan Calendar? next, what exactly are they talking about? another point, we must rectify the errors in our own calendar. I believe our own is out  by a few years.  Unless we have a starting point, designating this or that date for any event or for any cosmic alignment it becomes fruitless. we need to start with a date on the calendar wit refer t a comparable date on our own. then we need to extricate the errors in our calendar on top of this.

For myself, I regard the Mayan calender and so called prophecies, as nothing more than hypothesis. Or pointers to historical and recurring events. interesting ideas that relate not so much to one  future cosmic events but to  events that have occurred in a cyclic fashion, Now, this is not the first time the solar system is in its present position as relates t the galactic center. and who knows how many thousand of year the Mayans go back in time. I would also say, the major preoccupation of th Mayan astronomers was with the planet Venus, when it was a comet, and made two passes near earth before it settled into its present planetary orbit. I refer you to Velikovsky and Jim maccaney here. it may be whilst some are focusing on one seeming aspect of the Mayan calendar they are in fact referring to something quite different. And how does Planet X fit into this??

  • Norad, what other prophecies did you research?  This is a fascinating theory!  You have peaked my interest!
