WHILE LIVING IN DELAWARE AND WORKING IN SEVERAL CAPACITIES IN THE SENATE, IN GOVERNMENT, AND IN CULTURAL AFFAIRS,
I HAD MANY EXPERIENCES WITH JOE BIDEN. HERE ARE JUST TWO OF THEM...
There had been weeks of Sen.Joe Biden interrogating White House Chief of Staff, Edwin Meese lll . President Reagan had nominated Hon Meese for US Attorney General. I was commissioned to paint a portrait as a surprise for a dinner in his honor. He had not yet been confirmed, because Joe Biden was leading the committee that was against the confirmation. However they could not find anything wrong with the man.
At the banquet (with the cabinet officials, military , law enforcement leaders, and other dignitaries) Sen Biden was purposely seated next to Ed Meese so they can get to know each other socially.
When the portrait was unveiled... there was Ed Meese( with an aura of light) and totally surprised! After that Joe Biden supported the confirmation.
On another occasion, I was asked to speak at the Bob Hope Golf Classics dinner (for the Institute for the Study of American Wars). I was on the Board of Directors.(That image is in the upper right hand corner)
I had asked a friend of mine (who was a professional singer) to perform the song" ON EAGLE'S WINGS".
Afterwards I was presenting expensive porcelain eagles( made by Boehm) as awards to the Presidents of various companies.
The cocktail hour had gone on too long ...and many people were inebriated ...including Joe! As I reached for the second award( without my asking him), Joe impulsively turned around and grabbed the award .
When he attempted to hand it to me, he dropped it behind the podium! THE AMERICAN EAGLE WAS BROKEN! ONE WING HAD COME OFF!
His mouth dropped open, as I whispered to him "Don't worry about it ...I'll hold the pieces together... and no one will know!" He stammered "I'm sorry". I had a strange sense of foreboding , but still managed to maintain my composure.
LITTLE DID I KNOW THEN THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THAT ONE ACT....AS A PORTENT OF THINGS TO COME... OUR NATIONAL SYMBOL WAS BROKEN BY HIS HAND. TONIGHT WHEN JOE BIDEN MADE HIS PREMATURE ACCEPTANCE SPEECH HE TALKED ABOUT HIS FAVORITE SONG" ON EAGLE'S WINGS"
Tonight this memory came flooding back , as I watched him make his premature acceptance speech ,claiming to be President-elect.
That night, as I stood up to the podium, holding the eagle's wing ,I assured the recipient that we would make a New eagle for him . The audience never knew what really happened. So much of what goes on in our government is never known to the public.
WE MUST NEVER FORGET THAT THE LEFT WING AND THE RIGHT WING ARE STILL ON THE SAME EAGLE!
MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA AS WE PRAY AND FAST FOR TRUTH TO BE REVEALED AND THE SUPREME COURT TO RULE ACCORDING TO THE GOD'S WILL THIS WEEK!
