Greetings from Caitlin Brady here at Blue Rock Farm. This year of 2011, I will start the growing season on an independent farm operation in Lancaster County, PA. Blue Rock Farm, formerly known as Simple Gifts Farm, is located in Washington Boro on the corner of Blue Rock and River Roads.  I am putting one acre of land into organic vegetable production for the spring, summer and fall seasons.  I am very excited to have the wonderful opportunity to farm on the land of the Reist family.  Katy Reist with her husband, the late Sam Reist and their children Peter, James, Jesse and Ella began Simple Gifts farm in 1996. The Reist family are modern pioneers in the organic and sustainable agricultural movements here in Lancaster County. Simple Gifts Farm belonged to an organic farmers co-op, managed a stand at Central Market, as well as a CSA(Community Supported Agriculture). Following the Reist’s example Blue Rock Farm will be selling at Eastern Market in Lancaster city. In addition I will also be managing a small CSA.  There are approximately 25 shares available.  What is a CSA you ask? A CSA or Community Supported Agriculture is a new name for an old-fashioned idea: farmers and eaters should know each other! Here’s how it works: shareholders pay in the spring, and receive a weekly bag of the fresh picked harvest for an entire season:spring, summer and fall!
