Shortages at Vitacost.com...

I'm noticing a number of shortages of things I usually order at Vitacost.  And, some have been backlogged for weeks.

Zhena Gypsy Caramel Chai Tea (suddenly hard to find and price has doubled).

Wisdom Natural SweetLeaf Stevia

Frontier Ceylon Cinnamon Powder

Thai deodorant (this stuff works amazingly well, non toxic, no smell, just came back in stock today).

I just realized this may be because of the recent tsunami.  Whether or not that is true, it does raise awareness that if you use things that source the raw materials from the ring of fire area (like spices), you might want to stock up if you can.  The tea is the best I've found without sugar and rely on it to fill in the gaps on my restricted diet.  This is a bummer.

(Of course, 1200+ people dead and massive destruction is the biggest bummer of all.)

  • Thanks, Bill!  I did check Amazon, as well as Walmart.  I was able to score the Chocolate Chai at Walmart for $8something a can ($3 more than Vitacost, when it's in stock).  I got two cans (a month's worth, all I could afford).  I'll start looking for a new substitute.  With chai, though, all those spices come from tropical areas.  There are decent chais locally, but are made with black tea, which give me awful indigestion.  The rooibos (red) tea (which comes from South Africa) is caffeine free.

  • Sad to hear of the deaths of so many. The economic impact is now apparently being felt.
  • Probably more than just 3x the damage of a 6-foot tsunami.
