Just to see how everone is doing. Spring, or maybe should I say summer. is miserable here. The last cold front with rain and high winds have pretty much put plant live on "pause". Yesterday and today have been good, and above the 70 mark wich will help the garden but the plants have been stumped so much I hope that I can harvest any corn at all. The plants I have in tubs on the south side of the house seem to be doing better (thank God) And with all this bad weather and massive flooding in Europe and the USA I will have to take steps to increase my emergency supply. Problem is that it is hard to figure how much more I should buy. The way I see it is that If I purchase an amount of food (with a resepctable shelf life) and the price rises (wich it will) If it was to raise 1% That would be better than I would recieve from any bank on interest. I just have to convince my wife that we need to store more. :-)
Oh, and Cheryl.
I have purchased eveything I need for a nice large cold frame but have had no time to build it. It is in the garage and I picked up everything new at a fraction of the resale price. Lets say 5x8f, 3ft tall (1,5 in the earth, 1,5 above) for 45$
My problem is that the seedlings are getting too big to keep them indoors much longer. I hope this is over in a week but it doesn't look too promising. The ground thawed out two weeks ago and on friday I tilled the soil in one section of garden and the next day the cold front came and has been frozen since and the other two sections still have to be tilled.
knowing what is to come in regards to food price, I have started my seedling inside. I just have to wait a bit longer for the outside temperature to warm up.

That is for next year.
JAK, could you construct a cold frame to plant the seedlings in out doors?

We sure are.
We are paying for last year's very early spring.
