  • Jim.. That is brilliant... sometimes a word is all it takes to deter... or a dog barking... I have two of the smallest dogs made.. and they bark like they would tear your leg off... I feel more safe with them, than I did before...

  • Word to the wise... do not advertise that you are 'preparing'... for anything... and maybe, bring your supplies in quietly, or at night.

  • Yes I remember Katrina, Dianna. I also remember being in a shelter after a massive power failure affected a wide area in Eastern Canada. I saw self serving people get in line first to get their food before the elderly. All of the seniors decided to patiently wait for everyone to be served before standing up and go the line to be fed. I remember carrying my daughter of three in my arms. Since the shelter had just opened, the timing for the meals was erratic. The first few days we were there, lunch had to be served at 3:00pm. My daughter was so hungry that she was lifeless in my arms.  When they finally had the lunch meal ready, she perk up and smiled at me. I remember taking a shower with my daughter in semi darkness and under cold water. My husband, my son, my daughter and I only stayed in shelter for one week. I made my husband promise me to never go into shelter if ever there was a similar event.

When I read about Katrina and the people that went into the stadium to be sheltered. What I had experienced in the past t all came back to me.

Yes human being are not very nice in situation of crisis.

My options is to have 2 guard dogs, a hound of coyote and a cougar. If they do not get the message, I would have a grizzly bear.

  • Good ole, Jimmy Bob.

Yeah, spiders and scorpions work well too.  Miles Stair over at endtimesreport.com says put your valuables in your bee hive.

  • Best one I saw was a sign on the poarch that read,--------Joe, don't come in tell I get back the Python and rattler got loose again.  Jimmy Bob.

  • I'll just name my place, "Rattler Ranch."

  • Alex... Again... the people living next to you are not in your same spiritual space...therefore, while your beliefs are MAGNIFICENT ... when it comes down to it, people are going to be going after the weak like a pack of wolves... (those they think as weak... the nice folks).  Please keep in mind, I, too, would never intentionally hurt or kill another... but, if anyone would overtly harm my children, I would be like the female lion... act and think later... That is where I would draw the line on defense.

I hope you can move quickly, even if you commute to work.  We can only pray.

Rosemary... Do you remember Katrina?  When people are starving...   just sayin'.

Jim... Remember the good old BIG DOG dishes on the front porch, and the BEWARE OF DOGS signs posted?

Yes, we are looking at worse case scenarios here, of course.

  • Alex you would have to leave ahead of time cause once the shtf the roads would be blocked either by police/military or EQ damage.  Watch the movie the road and you may never leave home again.  The thing to do in the mean time is educate your neighbors as to what will happen if anything went wrong with society such as a global monatary collaps.  Tell them to at least save rice and lots of water.  All big cities would not be a good place to be in after the kind of things we are all expecting.  However at least being in a big city gives help to many survivors by the sheer numbers.  That is if everyone helps dig out.  Ever think about moving now?  Perhaps to a more secure area, one that you can feel safe in.

  • As many of you already know I live in Chicago....pretty straight forward concept.  I live in a 6 apartment building so have 5 neighbors in the same building, also pretty straight forward.  Now I was giving some thought to what Jim said about setting up a neighborhood survival group and the first thought that went through my mind was as long as it is not in my current neighborhood, well it comes down to a few factors, population is the first, too many mouths to feed and you can presume that they will fall into the group of unprepared.  Problem #2 that I have with the notion is that I know for a fact that we have neighbors in the building next to ours who sell drugs are hostile towards my landlords, they are rude obnoxious and crass on all levels, once again people I would never want to find myself in a life and death situation with......

I will more than likely be moving as far and as fast away from Chicago as humanly possible, my goal is to get up into MI or WI as far from civilization as humanly possible at least until the initial turmoil settles down.....

I understand the need to protect what is possibly our only life line but I honestly don't think I could or would ever hurt someone just to keep bread out of their mouths.....call me naive or delusional to think that there is intrinsic good in people but that's the way I prefer to see the world as opposed to the reality......If you haven't seen "A Beautiful Life", I highly recommend you take the time, its all about making lemonade out of lemons...the brighter side of life.....I will dwell there for the time being.
  • Two pieces of good advice Jim and Rosemary.  :)
