We have a church locally that distributes free bread from Food Lion to anyone who wants it. Also, some bread outlets around that sell day-old bread and other bakery products at a discount. Merita is one, though not good quality.
The cheap 10/10 brand is Roundies 24 oz loaf. The better backery bread at walmart is Italian or French, at $1.39. One day old is .99cents.
Jim, what brand bread? The cheaper brands here are 2/$5 now. I'm in southwest VA.
Wow! Where do you guys live? Here banannas are 39c lb. Butter on sale is $1.99 lb. Chicken is 69c per lb. Eggs $1.65 for large which are really small eggs. Bread is $10/10 on sale.
As to critter feed, I see horse feed has gone up and feed for my chickens have also climbed a little. The horse feed went up about $1.00 to $4.00 per bag depending on the type and brand of feed. And cat and dog food also are starting to climb. lovely.
wow chicken cost Usd4.00 a kilo in the grocery. i guess the drought has brought up the price in the us
Well I did check prices. Since we are still in the swing of summer with ample choices the prices are about the same as last year. I made a mistake in my earlier post. Chicken is sold by the Kg. I saw chicken today marked at $10.20 per Kg. I am not sure if this price is the forerunner of higher price in the future, but on average we pay about $16.00 for chicken.
bear in mind, if one changes ones diet t the most nutritious foods, forgo meat and such, I would accept fish, but lets say you eat hemp, flax, spirulina, chlorella, and fruit and nuts, and vegetables, one can cut the cost of eating by half , yet increase the nutrition several fold. so, these increases in the cost of food are I believe, based on the top end products based on meat . yet one can still eat cheaply yet having excellent nutrition. think about it. change the diet, slash the costs and make yourself incredibly healthy.
The price of bread here has gone up $2 over the past year or so. The butter was 2 for $6.00, or $3.69 if you only buy one. The veges were 2 for $3, or $1.69 for one.
We pay the same price for watermelon, the bananas are usually $0.67lbs, 1 lb of butter $4.00, about the same price for frozen veggies, chicken is $13.00 lb, as for the bread, I make my own. Tomorrow is grocery day. I will check the prices.
