Concern Over Missouri River Flooding AND DAMS

Here along the Missouri River we are having a mad scramble. All along there is levee-building and sandbagging going on. I really started to wonder when I heard that a business on the NORTH end of a southeastern, SD town was moving it's computer operations UPSTAIRS. They, of all buildings there, should have the least to worry about. They are involved with the mad scramble and I wondered "what do they know?"  Plus little snippets of info here and there coming thru on newscasts etc.

The official story is "a bit of flooding" and that "we feel that we are making the levees high enough" etc....they have evacuated some areas of towns along the river...moving people like crazy, building walls like crazy....most of the time going 24 hours a day.

One of the big concerns is the river flow. The Yankton dam, at it's record flow-rate, had to withstand 70,000 cfs (cubic feet per second) of water. It is at that now, or just above, and will be increased to 100,000 cfs this friday. It will continue to be escalated to 150,000 cfs by tuesday, June 5th. That is more than twice what these 50 year old dams have held.

There are several dams along the Missouri. I caught a snippet of the Governor saying there had recently been noted, a "whirlpool" at the dam in Pierre - I'm no dam expert but that doesn't sound good to me.....he said it is seen when the waters are calm....

A friend of mine just talked to an uncle in Montana today - he indicates they are worried the dam in Montana is about to fail, and that is why they are in such a rush to release water and pressure downstream ASAP. They stepped up the 150K release to June 5 from June 14.

In addition to all this news, I have to add a dream that I had last winter. This was while we were still living in Yankton itself, before Father provided us this house way north of Yankton, up several hills. ( I didn't even have any idea of the possibility of us moving!)

I dreamed I was standing on a plateau, I knew the house we were in was behind me (almost like I was in the front yard) Below me right at the top of the plateau I was on, was a raging torrent of waves, nothing but huge waves and water as far down as I could see, and I knew everything below me was washed away......quite a dream to look back on, given this information. My friend also had a very similar dream at this same time....

All in all, there seems to be great concerns over the Missouri river......keep your ears open....

  • They said on the news this morning that they tried to open up the dam in Bismark, ND on the Missouri river and that they had to shut it back down because of leaking. I am guessing that it must be a leak that would compromise the dam or otherwise I would think they would have just opened it....they said they are still increasing the flows but have to do it another route.....the news just gets more and more rosy every day.....
  • The Missouri river runs from Montana, then south to Kansas City - St Louis Missouri area - at the Missouri state area, that starts to get into "new madrid country". The Missouri river will eventually dump into the Mississippi river as I recall, and that also involves the new madrid area. So, while the big concern up here is mostly the dams holding and potential big problems if they don't.....it does eventually wind up in new madrid area, much farther down the line.....
  • Keith,

While it's true that it is a hostile climate at that elevation, no one can say definitively how high any global tsunami might reach. Or if it will even occur in the first place. It will ultimately be contingent upon the mass/density of ELEnin, and how close the object is to the Earth. I'm expecting a 75 to 90 percent die-off of all land organisms. Also, if ELEnin/PX has the gravity well necessary to lock onto the South Atlantic ridge and stop Earth's rotation, then this loss of momentum with rotation stoppage will cause tremendous tsunami to form in all large bodies of water.

  • I follow Spring precipitation rates religiously on this side of the divide (I'm in North Idaho). I've been amazed to see the rainfall patterns both here and in Montana/Dakotas/Central Canadian provinces. It just won't stop raining! Montana has been getting absolutely HAMMERED with extraordinary amounts of precipitation this year. Mother Earth is definitely going through some radical changes.

I'm strongly considering a bug-out plan in the next few weeks that has me at the 8-10 thousand foot level by the middle of August. I have the truck and the camper that can get me there, but that is a hostile climate even in late Summer, so further preparations are in order if I intend to pull this off.

Alas, this proposed elevation relocation is still is no guarantee when our friendly neighborhood brown dwarf achieves perihelion in September. The tsunami which will sweep the planet may be several miles high.

  • How close is the Yankton to the New Madrid faultline?

  • The big worry is if any of those dams go - about a devestating domino effect downstream.....
