Nations reach agreement on Agenda 21

Leaders throughout the world have reached an agreement on a document specifying the goals of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.

The document, named by UN officials by such titles as Rio+20 and Agenda 21, is a global agreement to "shape new policies to promote prosperity, reduce poverty and advance social equity and environmental protection."

The announcement of an agreement came late Tuesday in a UN news release emailed to journalists from Brazil.

In the weeks ahead of the conference, there was serious doubt nations would reach an agreement.

The vote on the document is expected Friday in Rio de Janeiro.

"We now have a text which will be adopted at the Conference,” Rio+20’s Secretary-General, Sha Zukang, said in a prepared statement. “We think the text contains a lot of action, and if this action is implemented, and if follow-up measures are taken, it will indeed make a tremendous difference in generating positive global change.”

A copy of the agreement was not immediately available, but the UN said "the agreed-outcome document spells out action points such as the need to establish sustainable development goals and mobilize financing for sustainable development, as well as the promotion of sustainable consumption and production, among others."

In May, the UN appointed the "High-level Panel of Eminent Persons" to plan Agenda 21's implementation.

Appointed were President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, and Prime Minister David Cameron of the United Kingdom.

  • Mariana  I am so pleased that you have given us the inside story from Israel, I have been following as much as I can the protests going on there to stop war. You are in a volitile region of the world and my heart goes out to you. Our leaders all need to be put in cages in a zoo so people can learn how not to be. This world is no longer a fun place to be. The weather that was killing so many animals is now killing so many people too. Things are getting hard here too.

  • Here in Israel the equivalent to FEMA is Nema (National Emergency Management Authority).

About a month ago I read an article (a tiny thing in a corner on the last pages) that they are preparing the plans of "tent citys" and buildings created to contain refugees in case of a natural disaster or a major war. Sound familiar?

Anyway, if something happens and I have to leave my home, I will not go to their camps, I'll literally run for the hills.  I live in a town that is surraunded by forested hills, so that's where I'm going, to the North or East, were there is water.

Things are moving faster and faster towards a climax. The economy is a mess, even tho Netaniahu tells so proudly that our economy is stable and thriving, people are strugling to survive, that includes my family, no matter how hard we work and how much we reduse our expenses, we are allways in debts, and so do my folks.  The weather is all wrong, it's the end of June and last friday there was a storm, with heavy rain, thunder and lightning, IN THE NEGEV, that is the South of the country, a dessert where allmost never rains, not even during winter, the rainy season arround here.  And here where I live, from sundown to sunrise we have a sort of fog, laying heavily on the hole area, it's really eerie.  About every 80 years there is a major earthquake here, it's overdue for about 20 years, so the presure is building up.  And if all that is not enough, the warmonger leaders of the world are threatening to blow evrything and everyone they don't like to peases, eighther with wars or by ruining all natural resourses.

  • Turning it into an international law and inforcing it with blue helmets will get a little bloody to say the least. I am living in a no travel zone so how are the going to herd us to where they want us? I guess I know my fate, I am to old to make a good slave and besides that I have a really bad attitude about it.

  • I think they have had plenty of time to get this done and are now finalizing their agenda.

  • I just remember that nothing really changes overnight, it will take a little time.

  • My training has kicked in and I think that is why I am feeling panicky.  My nerves are on edge and I keep buying more bags of rice and dry beans for my stockpile!

  • My opinion is to keep as much fear as you can out of your thoughts so as to think clearer. When it happens you will have better reactions than the whinnie sheeple You know our military training will kick in.

  • I know.  That is what concerns me.  I say just be ready to run to the hills!!

  • Tammy I do not think many could answer that question.

  • I do believe you are right Byron.  Now the question is "When" will the fall take place?
