  • Does anyone remember what the last webbot report described, a sinkhole large enough to disrupt a major area of city, that can not be fixed. This post just reminded me of this.
  • That is why I said maybe we should define what is a sinkhole because each person seems to have their own interpretation.

    According to Answers.com
    Sinkhole
    n.
A natural depression in a land surface communicating with a subterranean passage, generally occurring in limestone regions and formed by solution or by collapse of a cavern roof.

    Pothole
    n.
A hole or pit, especially one in a road surface. Also called chuckhole.
A deep round hole worn in rock by loose stones whirling in strong rapids or waterfalls.
Western U.S. A place filled with mud or quicksand that is a hazard to cattle.

But in the end to each their own.
  • It's not a large sinkhole, Alex,..but I thought it was worth mentioning because it's further East than the previous San Diego sinkholes which may hold some significance in the big picture.
  • I imagine its deeper than 3 feet thus a car can not pass over it.
  • Yes, I would agree, its a sink hole.
  • This is not to discredit you or anyone who has posted on this topic it is simply my opinion. Not every hole in the ground is a sinkhole. Potholes do exist and do occur often. Lets try to define for ourselves what to consider a sinkhole. My first thoughts tend to go in the direction that it should at least be 10 in diameter and at least 3ft deep. Otherwise, I just consider it a pothole. If it can swallow, a car it is a sinkhole, if it can swallow a person up to 3ft down it is a pothole. Just my interpretation.
