  • They  began  closing  access to the  caves  way  before the  white  nose syndrome  was  endemic to the  areas  being closed.  It  was  first  discovered or at least  reported  upon  3 years ago.  When  it  was determined  that  it  was  indeed  highly  contagious  even if it's  origins  were  not  completely  understood.

It  seems a  bit late  to  close the  caves  now  after  3  years  of  knowing the  disease  exists if they were indeed  trying  to  protect them.  It  does not make  any  sense  to me.  You strive  to limit  chances  of contagion not  close  down  after  the  animals  have  been affected.  Considering the   disease is  deadly  to  bats.

Just a convenient  excuse.  That  is my  thinking  anyway.

  • it appears they got a bit that white-nose-syndrome... the bats do

    Reason for closure, white-nose-syndrome

  • this does  not  bode  well........
  • The only one I see in Arkansas that is still open is Blanchard Springs Caves. I think this is because it is not owned by the government. They say on the site the others are closed because of the bats. REALLY???  That's a crock, because they weren't closed before stuff started happening.
