Becoming Illegal (An actual letter from an Iowa resident and sent to his senator)

The Honorable Tom Harkin > > 731 Hart Senate Office Building > > Phone (202) 224 3254 > > Washington DC , 20510

 Dear Senator Harkin,

As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service,  I  am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of > > Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.  My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to  illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate  and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five  years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and  income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I  see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.  Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes  every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes  in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to  be  illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in each of the last few years.  Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency  room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying  premiums  for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a  year.  Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would  receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as  well as 'in-state' tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United  States for my son. Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of  renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance  premiums .. This is very important to me given that I still have college  age  children driving my car. If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal  (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be  most appreciative. Thank you for your assistance.  Your Loyal Constituent, (hoping to reach 'illegal alien' status rather > > than > > just a bonafide citizen of the USA)

  • Lorraine... Lorraine... You are just not the right 'persuasion'....

I, too, welcome people into our great Country... My grandparents came right straight through Ellis Island, with proper papers, and made a life for themselves... Not saying everyone else has to enter the Country through Ellis Island... just sayin' they should also have the proper paperwork as our ancestors ... I think LEGAL is the word I am searching for... yeah, that's it... they should come legally... If I tried to do that in another country, I would be caught up and handcuffed to the next train back to the US... asap... I am really up on my soap box here, aren't I?  Sorry... what is right for one, SHOULD BE right for ALL... in my world, anyway.

  • I, too, do not blame the mexican citizens for being here either. That is what American is about. But please put into the system before you  take out.

  • I have heard that story over and over. I worked for a year with a mexican that could not speak english until a mistake wasd made on his pay check, then all hell broke loose. Most of the social service jobs now require you to be bilingual. California has been destroyed for this very reason. Arizona said enough is enough and stopped giving welfare to non citizens where I live they stayed out of the trap from the beginning. I can't blame the mexican people for being here, their own country has let them down, but us that have paid into the system are being denied when we need it because there are to many looking for a free ride.

  • Also, it;s funny, this young girl only spoke spanish at work but at job service she was talking in english to the instructor, who I forgot to metion, was also of mexican descent.

  • I was laid off of my job so I had to Job service for aa hour class. At the end of the class the instructor looks over our resumes and suggested jobs. There was a young girl from mexico in the class with me that was also laid off from the same company as me. I was sitting behind the instructor as she went over everything thing and could hear what she was saying to everyone. The young girl  was ahead of me for her consultation. I heard her tell the girl Oh you worked in agriculture and the girl said no not really and the instructor say of yes you have you can get free schooling. I was next, I am 55, She looked at my resume and said oh you work in nurseries (plants and trees). You can pick potatoes. I am not suggesting she should have said the same to the young girl, I am saying, why was I not offered schooling for free. This happened yesterday.

  • OMG  I started to say thats funny, but there is nothing funny about it. I have been wondering for a while if the gov is trying to piss everyone off so bad we will start a revolution and they can declare martial law. More votes for mr O looks like a good reason. The Dream act is being pushed very hard. Half of the national Guard have been removed from the border for 2012. They say around 5,000 people have died in Syria and the United Nations is hell bent on stopping this terrible act, BUT 46,000 have been kill near our border with Mexico in the last couple years so we do not secure  it. If you try to enforce imigration laws on the state level you are taken to court by the DOJ ,
