TAMPA - Scientists say the magnetic north pole is moving toward Russia and the fallout has reached -- of all places -- Tampa International Airport.

The airport has closed its primary runway until Jan. 13 to repaint the numeric designators at each end and change taxiway signage to account for the shift in location of the Earth's magnetic north.

  • Yes, agree Alex
  • So true Alesiah the rate at which it is shift positions is unheard of normally it took months for it to wander now its happening on a weekly basis...... to play it down they claim its just your normal adjustment but considering that we are having an adjustment roughly every 3-4weeks the proverbial cradle is rocking faster.
  • True, magnetic north does wander..but...if you listen to Rodney Viereck a Chief scientist of the NOAA ...the poles are moving rapid...

  • Yes the magnetic north pole does wander and yes it is common but what is not common is the media reporting something like this........  And considering the timing of when it is mentioned...... makes a person wonder about the coincidences that have occured this week alone with all the birds falling from the sky around the world along with the mass fish die offs....... something has got to be different for them to bother mentioning it.

  • According to Wikipedia, this is quite normal, navigators have been making adjustments for years. So there is no cause for concern.
  • so 40 miles a year is a gradual shift...so they say. It's not just the speed of the shift that counts ..what about the impact...   moving  .76 of  a mile a week would have a major effect on mountains, rivers, fault lines etc. We would have a creaking earth at least.
  • And it also has been affecting the way animals and insects travel.
