Pam:)usually salt pork but can use almost anything, only spring water too, haven't drank or cooked with city water in prolly 20 years. oh, and if you ever ate some of my gravy and biscuits, you will be begging for me to adobt ya :) and yeah, corn bread made from scratch. first i take and beat an egg while im heating my castiron skillet with bacon grease, then i mix my corn meal, milk or water or a mixture of both, a bit of flour to help hold it together but not necesarry, then i pull my well heated castiron skillet out and pour the extra hot grease in the mixture mix and bake to a perfect golden brown. my soup bean juice is thick and i like a lot of it so i can totally soak the corn bread. I can bake corn bread on top of a coal stove too, and biscuits. have even made soup beans on a karosene heater. i can and have lived off the grid but being alone and older, i prolly wont make it alone. aint no one in my county i even like lol, you may have to travel to get to this soup beans and corn bread.
