Food Stamps Cut $11 Per Month

Confirmed:  I forget where I mentioned it, but my son's food stamp benefit was cut $11 per month beginning in November.  The rules have changed and now, unless you are disabled, you have to get a job of at least 20 hours per week within three months to keep your food stamps.  I think this is the result of the earlier sequester, but not sure.

New rumor:  He heard today that SSI will be cut 15%.  I'm looking for a source, but haven't found one yet.

  • Thanks Cheryl I started putting things away 4 years ago that after a lot of food education I would not want my dog to eat. It has been a very frustrating journey for me and I am sure many others. I started out buying cans and a couple years later looked at the ingredience and started buying Mountainouse dehydrated. It is what it is and I have to eat some of.

  • Don't feel bad, Byron.  I have a ton of wheat and think I may have a sensitivity to gluten.  Have a half ton of corn, hundreds of pounds of beans (black, pinto, varieties), milk powder, and have trouble digesting all of that.  But the kids will eat.  At least I don't have pre-made meals full of salt.  I also have other stuff I will eat, but my older storage was bought as much as fifteen years ago.

  • Laura Scudders Organic Peanut Butter (16 oz) $4.98

    Decent bread $3-$4

    Smucker's Simply Fruit (10 oz) $2.22

So, $11 at Wal-Mart can buy you some decent food, but it would only make a sandwich a day and last a week (for one person).

King Arthur 100% Whole Wheat Flour, 5 lbs., $4.12.

Pinto Beans, 8 lbs, $8.12     You can get a 20 lb. bag for $19.98, a whopping savings of a penny or two.

Tuna, GV, 5 oz., per can, under a dollar.

Sometimes, you can save money by shopping on line and having them ship-to-store.

  • That is exactly what amerika lives on and for the life of me I don't know how we made it this long. Don't forget to put it in the Microwave to make it totally useless. I have pretty much given up trying to find anything that is not poisoned in some way, Just trying for the lesser of the evils and then I am not sure if I have made the correct decision. Most of my food storage is laden with High fructose corn syrup or any number of cariogenic chemicals I have no real clue what to eat other than my dehydrated meals which are also chemtrailled, anyone want to come to dinner ?

  • I should of separated them Peanut butter, Jelly and a loaf of bread OR 10 lbs Flour OR 10 lbs of beans OR 8 cans Tuna  sorry

  • You can buy that much with $11?

  •  Peanut butter and Jelly and a loaf of bread, a 10 lb bag of flour. 10 lbs of beans  8 cans of Tuna. Used properly it can make a difference. It won't buy much but it helps.

  • That's right.

  • As the price of food just keeps rising, it is criminal to not be increasing food stamps.
