  • Yes Tammy, we have fans circulating air.  BTW, Monday and Tuesday were very cool days like high's in 60's (below normal).  Wednesday morning was nice, and I did not turn the a/c on.  Well, by 2 pm it heated up pretty quickly to like 88 degrees by 4 pm.  The house temp inside climbed to about 88 degrees, it was awful - fans hardly helped.  The weather fooled me that day!

  • Thanks for the advice, Alex.  Only time the a/c unit gets sun is after 6 pm since it sits on the northern end of the house.  We do have a huge forsythia bush nearby which when the sun gets low enough, it provides shade.  So, that means the unit might get an hour's worth of sun, I will have to check that out.  The unit is almost 13 years old.

  • Kim try to make a shade for the a/c. Keeping it shaded will bring down the head pressure of the unit and reduce you electric bill, unit will last longer to! Don't block off the air flow so keep the shading material high 4or 5ft above unit.

Another thing that would help, use a soaker hose, you may want to cut it to fit your a/c unit, it also comes with a disk in the hose that has a small hole in it to reduce consumption. tie with plastic wire ties, no drilling or screwing near coils don't want to put a hole in the coils, With a water timer you could adj it to when the Sun shines on it!

  • I forgot about it before I moved to Virginia.  The fall is much nicer in Virginia.

  • Thanks, Tammy.

Kim, use fans to circulate the cold air.

Pat, you bet.  I'm heat sensitive and can't live without one.

  • Our a/c isn't working properly, it will not cycle, just keeps running and it only gets the house down to 80 degrees but that feels good compared to what the house would be like without the a/c on.  So we run it from 9 am to 8 pm (would not want to let it run straight for 24 hours).  At least next week they are calling for it to cool down again.

  •   Thank goodness for air conditioners.

  • Looks like Summer is here!  All of you in the states mentioned (especially New York) please use the cooling stations and your common sense.  We here in the south know just what you are going through and are pretty much used to it.  Be safe!!! :)
