I agree is dangerous.
Consider: off the coast exactly where the dai ichi plant imploded is the most productive fishery in Asia. Like our Grand Banks. A cold current from the north drops down and meets a warm current from the south. What about this contamination of the base food chain? The north current brings phytoplankton, the base of the food chain. Can it get any worse?
Consider: Bush admin used depleted plutonium shells that disintegrated upon impact to fine particles indistinguishable from the sand of the Iraqui desert. The wind blows this everywhere. How short our media-saturated memories are. We are a really spacious land with 105 reactors and we still don't have a disposal site------most of our used still-highly radioactive material is stored on-site for lack of a better which is not dependent upon a site as you have been told but the fact that the transportation would be more dangerous than keeping the toxin in situ. If France were to undergo a nuclear breach, all of Europe would be lost.
Was anybody thinking about this? Or was the answer just pie-in-the-sky guessing that we would just step up to reusing this spent fuel then everything would be hunky-dory? Table top fusion still hasn't happened. Super conductivity remains a specialty application. One power line in Switzerland and one here in US.
What is happening is the energy increase output from the sun. Where is this showing up? Well, Fluff is just at our doorstep. What happens when you pour energy into a plasma cloud? Does it begin to condense? Does the invisible 5th state of matter that pervades all space begin to become thick enough to earn the term matter? E=M x Velocity of Light squared. Is our various named 'planet' really an energy ball generated from a huge input of energy from the sun?
