Large M9.3 Solar Flare -   Earth Directed w/ CME

Mitch Battros - Earth Changes Media     A class M9.3 solar flare occurred on 2011/08/04 from sunspot region 1261 located 40° to the West of the central meridian. This is just one measurement from cycle 24's first X-class flare. A CME is associated and is visible in the video below.   A first estimate from STEREO/COR2 indicates a high-speed stream of charged particles traveling above 1500 km per second. This very fast increase of proton flux is flare-driven.   This is the third CME in a row (Aug 02, 03, 04). Buy an extra solenoid or two and keep in the Faraday cage.

Recent Solar Flares could affect US Power Infrastructure.  This was reported on my local television station.

Here is some info I picked up on the flare:

Moving at an estimated speed of 1950 km/s, this CME is expected to sweep up two earlier CMEs already en route. Analysts at the GSFC Space Weather Lab say the combined cloud should reach Earth on August 5th at 13:55 UT plus or minus 7 hours: "The impact on Earth is likely to be major. The estimated maximum geomagnetic activity index level Kp is 7 (Kp ranges from 0 - 9). The flanks of the CME may also impact STEREO A, Mars and Mercury/MESSENGER." High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras (i heard as far south as pennsylvania)

Anything that is electrica l in nature should be in the faraday box, main items are those that don't use batteries, those that do make sure to take the batteries out.  Car cellunoids will go almost immediately so it may become impossible to start up a car.  Easiest way to tell is if it can store information or retain information after being unplugged it should be protected, cell phones, laptops, desktop computers, watches, and a whole slew of other items.
