When you have traveled as much as i have across America you see many things. Some good and some not so good? While i have been stuck recently at my brothers house and he is working in the mill and i am not. I decided to try and upgrade his garden, as i love gardens. So after much work and then not even enough, i have added some compliments to the garden. Then finally i realized that this small space would not even be enough? I look the the neighbors yards which are very too much close to ours, and it comes to my mind that we should take out every other house and use that for more garden space! Im sure the real estate developers never had such intuition as they were all about making money, Mammon that great evil of this world! Could you imagine twice the space in the right hands could produce enough vegetables to even feed the neighbors who did not have enough. But i digress, can you imagine a cherry tree in full bloom in the spring, what beauty! Broccoli as high as a man with great heads, cabbages and cauliflowers as big as basketballs, 20 foot corn with foot and a half long ears of the sweetest corn you had ever tasted? Watermelon vines that spread 30 feet in all directions and have some of the biggest watermelons. Mulberry trees with mulberries as big as your thumb and very healthy for you, so much that you could feed the birds, the squirrels and still have enough leftover for 10 neighbors and your family! Well the list goes on, pick your favorite vegetable or tree and plant it, It is marvelous for the Soul and the multitude of your gains even better for the giving to others! To sit under your shade trees and share a giant watermelon with freinds on a hot day? To can all of these and more for the winter, have a pumpkin on your porch almost big enough to collapse it? Wisteria vines with all their beauty, mums planted all around, daffodils and daiseys and flowers of all kinds of descriptions to entice the eye, Hummingbirds and cardinals and sparrows, butterflys of every kind and color. Can you now see that the world as it should be, the one that was stolen from us? Never again can we allow those of the darkness to darken our doors or our lives as we are the Children of God!!! And the World was created for our pleasure as it was always meant to be! Now the time has come the walrus said to speak of many things!

Hi, It brings to mind my first little house now long gone to me.i had to pay the other owners $2000. And buy their old furnishings to get them to move out completely,After i had assumed the mortgage They were a terror to their neighbors, all about drugs and fighting. And the house was a wreck. So having been a roofer for 20 years,i put a new roof on it,because it leaked alot. Then i painted it a bright blue color and planted flower beds around it. I had no wife atm and since the neighbors seen what i had done with the house they assumed i was gay? And come halloween that year the kids pelted my house with eggs,Lol. I had a few girlfriends in church and have never been gay! But that shows about how bad peoples perceptions are. That spring i rototilled up the backyard and begain to bring in all kinds of truckloads of different kinds of dirt and fixings. So now my neighbor next door to me, whose yard was meticulous and mowed better than a golf course. Threw a fit and gave me a 30 minute tantrum about how i had ruined his property values, and said i was only a little better than the crackheads who lived there before me? Well things changed after the garden came to full and i started giving the neighbors all kinds of fresh produce and my yard looked like a proverbial garden of eden for the time. Then i bought some ducks and made them a pen and let them run loose from time to time as they could get over the little fence any time they wanted and that brought another fit from the neighbor, He says well they'll poop all over the place and smell bad and make alot of noise, i said more noise than your pekingnese barking under my bedroom window everyday all morining and night? Well after awhile the ducks wouldnt eat the cracked corn i got them and i was suspicious and there were two new concrete blocks, one on my side of the fence and one on the neighbors side. So i watched out the back window one night after it got dark? And sure enough the neighbor was sneaking into my back yard and feeding the ducks and petting them and talking to them like they were his children. Later he confessed to me that he just loved those ducks, in my yard though and not in his? Well the ducks multiplied like rabbits and we had heard that hooligans had killed all of the ducks at the local lake. So we asked that city and they agreed and said they would be happy to have those ducks to replace the ones that were killed. And so that lake is still full of all the ducks that came from my backyard and many more. While the school bus loaded in the morning by my backyard, i had to build a 6 foot fence as the kids were all about trying to destroy the garden. After that the could only try to hit the ducks with stones, and write on my wooden fence. After that year i convinced the school to move the little hellions bus stop to someone else's yard! I had the teenage son of one of the fathers who started the gay crap, help me build the fence, as he needed some money for school clothes, his dad was an alky. I showed him the 225 lbs of weights i had on a bar in the backyard that i worked out with. I told him to try and pick it up. He couldnt of course and i picked it up and curled it 4 or 5 times and then set it back down. I told him that i was not gay and that i had a girlfreind and that i worked in roofing construction for many years. Wasnt but a few days went by and his dad came over and apologized for starting the mischef and rumors, and thanked me for giving his son a job so he could get his school clothes. It took a few years but i won over most of the neighbors. Of course you can never expect to win over everyone as there are always a few bad eggs!
Gee it is uplifting to know that there are other gardeners here. Come February and March, I look for my seeds. I find the pots and wash them. I put my own compost in each one and plant the seeds. I place the pots on a pot warmer. I water the pots from the bottom to prevent over watering. Then everyday, I check to see if any thing came up. Like a hen checking on her brood, i check and recheck how the seeds are doing. An then the miracle happen. Specks of green are popping up from the soil. Then it is hardening time. I put my pots outside on warm days and bring them in later in the afternoon. Trying to contain my impatience, I see May come along. It is time to open up the garden for anther year.
We have been picking strawberries since 3 weeks. It is unbelievable that I do not have to go to the grocery store to eat. I just have to go outside to get the tastiest salad.
I wish I could talk with my neighbors about their gardens, but here, it is every one to themselves. The community spirit is totally absent.
I think Amrah that people all across America are starting to see this and understand. Of course most have done so due to the economic situation. Nonetheless, they are tearing up their lawns and planting gardens where nothing of use grew before. TPTB are fighting back trying to use city codes and ordinances to keep them from doing so. However they are fighting a losing battle as they have revealed themselves. Those who have taken this step are now coming to the realization that lawns like many of the things we obsess about as homeowners are worthless. They are a cosmetic extension of our own sense of worth as homeowners. The face we show the community so to speak. But what is its worth truly? We are coming to understand that community is more than just living in the same neighborhood. It is getting to know our neighbor, it is helping out those around us . It is thinking of the situations that will arise due to the economic situations developing on almost a daily basis. It is giving back to nature, the mother and wildlife alike.
There is something cathartic about a garden. Where you till and prepare the soil, plant the seed and nuture it untill it grows and then in gratitude for your love and care it bears its fruit for you to enjoy. It is a microcosm of the Universe. Its laws mirrored in our small little corner of the cosmos. It is those laws and principles in action. Whether people understand it or not it is these small urban and community gardens that are bringing us back to the mindset that we need for what is to come. It will be what allows us to move on and do for ourselves when all our toys are not longer available. It is what will convert the cold and separate communities we now live in into warm active and caring communities where everyone takes care of each other.
I have founf that the laws of nature have a way fo steering one in the direction that one must go even when we do not understand where the particular road we are on will lead. The human community s being prepared and lead down the path to a more loving and caring commune with nature and each other. Some may go kicking and creaming but go they will. I welcome this change and embrace it fully. Mother Earth needs to be loved and we need to become more aware of what is around us rather than focus always inward and on what our needs are. We are so much more than that and the simple art of gardening and feeding ourselves , our families and our neighbors are the baby steps that will take us there. I believe. :)
BTW, just picked my first cucumber today. Yay. :) Getting loads of zucchinis (all organic) and corn is just about ready to be picked. The broccoli of course is finished for now, and still waiting for all my green tomatoes to turn red.
The reason why I am very thankful I live rurally and have 15 acres. I have my little veggie gardens, I sure wish I had the time to expand them. Of course one day maybe I will have more time to spend tending to my gardens and be able to plant a lot more. :)
The point is very obvious! Living the life you were meant to live and not the one you are forced to live now! Forget the lawyers, the politicians, the armys, the police, the false governments. The over crowded citys, the corporations, the concrete jungles that many are forced to live in, the poor who live in sandusted burntout wastelands and flooded shacks that pile upon each other to the sky?The polluted waterways and oceans? The New World will be none of these!!! You will be one with the earth and Love it and still have all the technologies you have today and much, much more! I am saying this will be what you will have very soon and noone in this universe shall say nay! It is only for a short time now and all of the most beautiful things of this universe shall be yours! So be of good cheer and have much hope, for all of this the Prime Creator of all Souls has promised unto you, and His Word cannot be broken!!! For while we wait here in what must seem like a hell? The Prime Fathers words are always True and all these good things shall be yours and your children after you for thousands of generations. And Lo i am always with you!
