Astronomers and stargazers looked to the sky as the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter aligned over the southern hemisphere.
In an interview, Fred Watson, the astronomer in charge of the Anglo-Australian Observatory in New South Wales, said the planets often come together, but this time you could see four in the same bit of sky.
"The four that we could see on Friday morning were the brightest, Venus the brightest of all planets, and then Jupiter to its left and Mercury to its right and below sort of hugging the horizon a bit was the planet Mars," he said.
Watson said the planetary show might not be rivalled for another 29 years.
