What is so funny about all this talk of peace, love, and higher values, all because of the Mayan calendar is that the Mayan practiced cutting out the heart of young girls to offer to their leaders! Now I hop that since we are starting a new page on the calendar wheel that they do not go back to that as the start of this age.
Actualy we do not need a new age to discover peace and love. It is in everyone and we just have to practice it every day. Kindness becomes a way of life just as drunkeness or durgs does. Yes any way of thinking can become a habit. What ever you put your mind to can become a reality. If we all try hard, we can make this a better world. We just have to think it a better world! And it will be!

Yes desertrose, it resides within us! And the Mayens did cut out hearts too but not as many as the Aztecs. They also threw madins down wells a lot. The big difference was that the Mayens sacraficed their own while the Aztecs did a lot of cutting out the hearts of their neighboring tribes. And they traveled far into the present Arizona and new Mexico, some say even further, where they burried treasure and took slaves.
I do believe the practice of cutting out hearts was the Aztecs not the Mayans. It has been established that The Mayan civilization even performed surgery as they have found skulls with precision cuts in the bone that showed signs of growth and healing. It has been the contention that very possibly the Aztecs were mimicking (possibly) a procedure performed by the Maya. However lacking the skill and the knowledge necessary it evolved into a sacrificial right . Of course I am simply repeating what I have read in the past . I could very well be wrong.
However I do agree that it is within all of us and we do not have need of any leader spiritual or otherwise to bring it forth as it already resides within us :)
