I know these happen reasonably regularly, but they seem to be increasing in numbers lately - or is it that we're just more aware of them - and, although we've had some recent ones in the Russia, why is it that the increasing numbers seem to be more of a US phenomenon than anywhere else?

Here is a worldwide fireball site it loads slow so wait a minute below the map there are the actual sightings report. http://thelatestworldwidemeteorreports.blogspot.mx/   There is a better one on youtube that just started up.

Great, and very professional video, seams almost like military or nasa filming. It would be interesting to know is who? took the footage. Over the last few months when the sky is clear I have seen dozens of bright objects passing, but it is really hard to say if it is a satalite or not. I take it that the slower ones are satalites and the fast ones are small shooting stars but it is still hard to say.

Wow!  That was a fantastic fireball capture!  Actually there were several meteors with it.  Or were they UFO's ?  There have been fireballs all over the world.  We only hear of the U.S. ones.  Do a Google search for fireball reporting and you will get a list world wide.
