look at photos in regular size, hard to see in thumbnail.

taken this morning, clear blue skies. started seeing chemtrails, so i took some shots. about ten minutes later, saw a big ass ring around the sun, took shots of that. then pretty soon, these crazy black dots started showing up in the pictures...at first a bit scrambled, about ten minutes later looked like a classic UFO shape, then a couple with them as perfect circle, and back to somewhat scrambled. photos taken over about two hours, between 11:00 AM and 2:PM.

i am using a crappy samsung flip phone. thinking it may be too much light for the camera, i turned down the light meter...as you can see, the spots are still there.

can anyone help me figure this out, debunk it, whatever?

  • Yep, took them around 11ish, CDT. Bright!!!!!

I came in and typed and was making numerous typos (even posted some)... so, decided to get up and make lunch for the hub, to clear my vision... I should have used better sunglasses.

  • huh!!! interesting, thanks for getting back to me. did you try it in the morning? i found less spots the further up in the sky the sun was. someone told me the crappy digital phones will show spots like that because the white heat spots in the sun have too much light for the camera, so it reads in reverse as black spots. i dunno. if that's the case, i find it curious at least that the shapes in the pics i got were so weird.

be careful! i got a big headache all day from taking pics. :( then i was grumpy and fatigued. the sun is really hitting hard...i've heard others discuss it in forums, but yesterday was my big, omg, this is seriously effecting me! moment.

also, my friend in hawaii used her good camera to take a pic of the sun, there was an orb near it...slightly behind a cloud, so not refraction. then several other people noticed it as well, posted pics, got shots of it peeking through clouds to remove any suspicion of refraction.

  • Absolutely nothing by way of my cellphone (a Samsung Solstice/AT&T), pure white glare.

With my A1100IS (digital), more glare. By this time, my eyes were hurting from squinting!.

Best pics were with my Z1485IS (digital), still more glare, but I was graced with a bit of cloud cover during this take Even with zoom I got not spots. (still seeing spots - from looking up and at the sun - from these attempts.

The battery is charging for the Pentax... it's the oldest and may not take a charge. But, we'll see.

Have you considered sending the images to Samsung (camera division) to see if they could provide an explanation?

    AND, yep! learning is fun!

  • hmmm! looking forward to seeing whatcha get on those, msred! it is kinda fun and educational, if nothing else you learn a thing or two.
  • I'll also take shots with all my 3 digitals, as well as a Nokia phone I use to use... would do the same with my 35mm, but I have no film and it'd also mean time and expense for processing... I'd love to do it, tho, simply out of curiosity.
  • Then, I have to say "I don't know." I've never taken a picture of the sun with my camera phone (Samsung, also), but I'll try tomorrow to see and capture something similar.
  • i could see some of them in the tiny thumbnail in the camera....??? who knows. odd shapes though, for sure.
  • Digital cameras have there limits, esp. cell phone cameras. The dots are caused by the circuitry that captures the data from the analog sensor and the camera's sharp feature algorithms. The pixels (black dots) are suppose to make the light source appear sharper/brighter. This happens even with high dollar digital cameras, when taking shots of intensely bright images (of which the sun is one), unless using adequate filters. You won't see the black spots in thumbnails, but when enlarged beyond a given threshold, they can become visible.

  • two other sites i found with pics of black sun spots, except these look nothing like mine:

  • nooooooo! lol! i took the pics and at first, someone else saw them...i was using the camera to block the sun while taking pics so my brain didn't melt, but it did anyways :P
