"...potentially interfering with communication and navigation satellites and disrupting ground-based communication networks and power grids"

"...expected to begin arriving until sometime midday Thursday.

"Some may have already gotten here, however, as China has reported disruptions of radio communications in the southern part of the country.

"The disruptions are not expected to be as severe as some past events.

  • Alesiah,

Either would work but what works best is a Faraday Cage because of the way it disperses electromagnetic energy.....an insolated tin can or metal trash can can work but beware of arcing(think I spelled it right).....the main point is to shield your electronics.....and as Brian put it, if the government is willing to talk about the flare then it is more than likely a minor event.  Also, another detail my girlfriend pointed out is that you can locate shielded places by using your cell phone as a gauge.  If you get no signal there is a good chance you are fairly well covered this only applies when underground.  If you get no signal outside that just means you have a horrible service provider :)
  • Cheryl you were talking to me about the Faraday cage...and then I found this link and wondered if you thought this was good info concerning tin cans and metal trash cans for storage of electronics..

  • Which will go down completely the moment we get hit by a big enough flare.......
  • Every night around 10 or so my controller for my cable box seems to go on the fritz....it tends to last until about 11:30 or so.  This has been going on for the last few weeks religiously and I have replaced the controller as well as my cable box with no success whatsoever.....makes me wonder if its an external source that is causing the problem..... some form of electromagnetic interference......  Minor I know but it may apply....
  • There were a few clitches here and there I heard about last night on the news..but was a great day otherwise!!
  • So far, I have experienced any problems.
