I live in southwest VA (in the Appalachian mountains). I have seen to different charts. One puts us in the outer edges of feeling a NM rip, another puts us just outside the outer edge. I think if we feel it, it won't be devastating IF we were earthquake proofed. Around here there aren't apartment buildings. Affordable housing is usually mobile homes. This area is not known for seismic activity so I assume most if not all of these dwellings are not earthquake proofed. Even a 5.+ could knock them off their foundations. The land is hilly here and most of these homes are propped up with stacks of concrete blocks, nothing more.
  • In 1811-12, the earthquakes were felt as far away as New York City and Boston, Massachusetts, where ground motion caused church bells to ring.  Just to give you some scope.
  • The New Madrid adjusting seems to be more and more likely with each passing day.....please everyone prepare.....
