If you are like most people, you are vermin adverse.  As electrical interplay increases between Earth and passing objects, it will force vermin out of the ground.  As part of mentally preparing for the coming serious changes, this little exercise might help you toughen up.  Look at pictures of creepy crawlers and slimy slitherers (actually, they are dry) until you feel the panic subside.

My favorite is the potato bug.  They look like they are from outer space.  I stepped on one in Santa Barbara and it kept walking, with my foot and full weight on it.  http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%3Fei%3DUTF-8%26p%3Dpotato%2Bbug%2Bimages&w=160&h=120&imgurl=www.bing.com%2Fimages%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dpotato%2Bbug%2Bimages%23focal%3D5b965f59c34afa880bd68927385307a9%26furl%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252ffarm3.static.flickr.com%252f2421%252f3920050657_cb3502afdc_z.jpg%253fzz%253d1&size=&name=search&rcurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bing.com%2Fimages%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dpotato%2Bbug%2Bimages%23focal%3D5b965f59c34afa880bd68927385307a9%26furl%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252ffarm3.static.flickr.com%252f2421%252f3920050657_cb3502afdc_z.jpg%253fzz%253d1&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bing.com%2Fimages%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dpotato%2Bbug%2Bimages%23focal%3D5b965f59c34afa880bd68927385307a9%26furl%3Dhttp%253a%252f%252ffarm3.static.flickr.com%252f2421%252f3920050657_cb3502afdc_z.jpg%253fzz%253d1&p=potato+bug&type=&no=2&tt=115&oid=http%3A%2F%2Fts4.mm.bing.net%2Fimages%2Fthumbnail.aspx%3Fq%3D995359328059%26id%3D6829263e61dfdb80eeaa87dce4536616&tit=potato+bug+while+out+in+my+yard+i+found+this+potato+bug+also+called+...&sigr=15kb5fkh2&sigi=15d9ih297&sigb=11r5bmm4l&fr=yfp-t-701

Get a basic education of bugs and snakes so you will know them when you see them.  Find out what's poisonous and what's not, what to do if poisonous.  Last summer, someone in my family was bit by a brown recluse.  She nearly died.  One hospital turned her away, saying bah, humbug.  I gave her a mixture of essential oils and it helped...drew the venom out, maybe saved her life.  I have also heard that solder quickly packed on a venomous bite will draw venom out.  One man did this and saved his wife's life.

Update 8/9/2011:  Two large yellow jackets got in the car.  7-year-old Danielle absolutely freaked out.  She lost her mind.  No, she didn't get stung but imagine a child refusing to do as you say, screaming her head off, sure the bees were following her, out to get her, running, refusing to get back in the car (after they were gone).  Totally uncontrollable...over two bees.  This demonstrates some kind of sedative is going to be needed.  If you have children, talk to your health care provider or pharmacist.

  • It is fascinating, Weiynala.  If I remember correctly, it takes about 12,000 rose petals to make 5 ml of rose e.o., which by the way, has the highest vibrational level of all the essential oils and is very potent.  I saw the steam vats at YLEO ranch.  Some oils need other types of processing, depending on the oil, like enfleurage, maceration, solvent, etc.

  • Yes, Young Living is pricey but their oils are priceless.  I toured their farms out in Utah back in 2005 and saw the vats they process the oils in.  It takes a lot of raw material to get a tiny amount of oil, so there is another reason for the price.  If it is pure oil, not cut with adulterants, it takes tremendous volume.  There is a book published by Essential Science Publications with formulae just for Young Living oils.  They had lavender lemonade for refreshment and it was quite tasty so you might want to try adding a bit of lavender to your lemonade and see how you like it.  Lemon E.O. is also good as a prophylaxis for kidney stones.
  • It's okay Weiynala.  We support local farming (in this case our cyber neighborhood).  We don't want people coming in just to use our member base as their sales platform.

Kim, essential oils are found in many places.  Most likely places are health food stores.  Wal-Mart carries some varieties, as does vitacost.com (very favorable prices).  If you want them for therapeutic qualities, you need to get therapeutic or medicinal versions.  Being "pure" or "organic" does not necessarily give you the quality you need for therapeutic applications, which you get with lab certification.  I get my oils from Young Living or my aromatherapy school, because I use them for therapeutic applications.

You can cook with some essential oils.  If you love the smell of citrus, put some bottles of orange or lemon essential oils in your food storage.  You can make lemonade from a few drops of lemon e.o. and sweetner in a glass of water, orange drink, too; add flavor to your oatmeal; spice your spaghetti sauce with oregano e.o., add some bergamot e.o. (oil of bitter oranges) to your tea to improvise Earl Grey.

There are about 240 drops per 15 ml bottle, so it goes a long way, as well as being compact and lightweight, and 100% natural.  Though I use e.o.'s in cooking, in the category of spices, sauces, gravies, and other flavorings, I use high grade (therapeutic) since they are being ingested.  Lower grade e.o.'s are adulterated.

Essential oils in the perfume category are just that...perfume.  Not to be eaten or in any way ingested.

Always do an allergy test before using a new oil.  You can pick up a book on aromatherapy basics, but basically the same test if you color your hair...a dab in the bend of your arm and watch for any kind of allergic reaction within 24 hours.  If one starts, you dilute with oil (olive, massage...)  Essential oils do not wash off with water.

  • Looks like pay back time for all the bugs that have bitten me in my life time.
  • I am not too squeamish most of the time...so don't foresee too many problems, I have more of an issue killing big game, or for that matter medium/small game lol.....Not keen on the idea of killing my own food.  Will do it if I have to but........
  • Snakes do not bother me, mice do not bother me, bugs do not bother me (I stay away from poisonous snakes).  Well, my chickens will have a field day with all the bugs and worms that will come out.  BTW where can I find essential oils?
  • Yum, yum, Pan... when is supper?
  • LOL, way to go, Pan...
  • That's a (starship) trooper!  :-D
