Military Exercise?

Six large helicopters flew quite low over my podunk town in southwest Virginia today.  They each had a long straight tube on their front ends and looked like this:

Never saw anything like this in our area before.

MsRed, you should still have a guard armory there.  At least there was 25 years ago.  Humble high grad here.

Styx, that is the very type that has been flying over our area... in addition to the low flying jets and smaller helicopters. I thought maybe our area has recently been designated as a major fly out/in zone for Bush Int'l Airport, located northeast of Houston. Now, I'm wondering, again... what's up? We have no military units in our area ---- I should say, that I know of.

I saw four more today, a few miles outside of town.  They were flying real low.

Keith is right.  Nothing special about midflight refueling other than the dangers :)

That's a big one.  My picture is also from the internet, not one I took.  There was no plane, just six helicopters.  They flew low and slow over our little downtown area.

It does look like a military exercise. If it was not, the chopper would land to refull.
