Why is your contribution important?

Your observations can help improve earthquake response and also contribute
to scientific knowledge. Observations (including questionnaires,
pictures, etc.) can provide valuable in-situ constraints on earthquake
effects and, in the long term, improve the performance of our models of
earthquake impact.

  • Glad this was posted... Also, searched for evidence of a quake in Swit, and only found one in Germany, directly North of the Swiss Alps. (yesterday). Take care, Joe...love you ~
  • 500?

When my dad's hit 490 he was a complete mess.
  • i attached a seperate blog the definitions of the magnitudes. maybe someone can figure it out. it talks about logiritums. i any have a ged and one year of college accounting. i am going back on the hunt. my blood sugar today was 500, so i am not to responsive. joe.
  • i checked all the sites you listed and five others. no one is reporting a 9.0 anywhere.
  • Cheryl, would you like for me to like for me to move all this into a discussion format so you can load the screenshots here in the discussion?

I'm going to have to leave soon, so I want be able to get to it until later tonight, e
  • You need to learn the earthquake magnitudes:

    ML - local magnitude (Richter)
    Mb - magnitude body wave
    Ms - magnitude surface wave
    Mw - moment magnitude

There are others but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

    A 2.0 ML is smaller than 3.0
  • Stephen, how does a 9.0 false value happen? 9.0 to 2.0 is a big spread, thanks for answering my questions
  • I'm attaching my screen shots to the discussion of the trail derailment since I can't attach documents to a blog.
  • The 2.0 was designated as ML 2.0 while most of the other earthquakes were designated as "MB." What's the difference? On redpuma, only 3.0 and greater are reported, so ML 2.0 presumably then is greater than a 3.0?
  • The 9.0 magnitude was a false value. However...

It was a 2.0 magnitude in Switzerland.

    No relation between the two.
