As incompetent as TEPCO was, should they be allowed to try this?

I recall a line from the Bible, "And a third of the waters would be poisoned."
Today on CBC news, they mentioned that the ocean mud in from and at some distance from the reactor is heavily contaminated with cesium 137. The eco system is highly affected and wont be safe for many years to come.
To trust TEPCO with anything after their lies is ludicrous. To not do anything is a death sentence for the Pacific if it is not already destroyed. When it comes to cleaning up your own mess, there real goal was to keep costs down and the planet is and will suffer for thousands of years. This situation is like the Gulf oil contrived event, where we let the BP take control of the clean-up and they turned it into a cover-up with Corexit. The danger removing the rods is almost to high for the risk to the world. Where is Superman when you need him?
